Glass Isle es el alias de la artista brasileña residente en Londres Zuleika AvTes quien trabaja en el campo de la música electrónica experimental. 

Glass Isle en su formación anterior era el dúo de Avtes y Natalie Williams, quienes lanzan en 2015 vía Mordant Music su álbum homónimo. 

“Vels d’Èter” es el primero en solitario de Zuleika AvTes que se publica por el sello londinense Outer Reaches y que fue grabado en Londres entre 2015 y 2022. Incluye 20 canciones que evocan paisajes sonoros cinemáticos, envueltos en drones y grabaciones de campo capturadas en São Paulo y Londres.

Las canciones están cubiertas de densas capas ambientales, ruidos abstractos y arropados por la voz etérea de Zuleika que deambula por pasajes misteriosos e inescrutables, cuando repentinamente emerge un acordeón en “Girl Spectral”. En medio de ambientes espectrales surge líneas melódicas tiernas y edificantes como lo sugiere en su intimidad “Rêverie”. Un velado aire gótico se cierne sobre “Three of Swords”, en tanto en la breve introducción de “Time Before Time (Interlude)” da paso a un canto del más allá en “Stanotte sull'Atlantico - Part 1” que se siente lejos y perdido. Sin embargo, en “Sleepwalking” vuelve a surgir el momento de la acogida y el encantamiento. En “Hekate” los sintetizadores dibujan una línea ascendente con varias vocalizaciones de Zuleika formando un solemne coro celestial que navega en las alturas y se encuentra con las inquietantes atmósferas de “Lost” y que continúan camino hacia “Le Scelte”. La última introducción en este álbum es con “Omnia (Interlude)” y sus abstractas frecuencias de glitches, son el preámbulo para “Proměna Magissa”, una masa sonora impenetrable y sombría que se sigue expandiendo con los drones de “Luna Ellekter”, en tanto ya se comienzan a sentir las pulsaciones rítmicas de “Skullrose Fire” junto a los oscuros y penetrantes pads. “SP-2AM” cierra el álbum entre las trepidantes líneas sintetizadas y el solapado y sostenido beat que muestra la faceta minimalista de Zuleika.

“Vels d’Èter” nos transporta a un viaje de ensueño en el que levitamos entre paisajes grises y apastelados, conmovedores y nostálgicos.

Glass Isle is the alias of London-based Brazilian artist Zuleika AvTes who works in the field of experimental electronic music.

Glass Isle's previous lineup was the duo of Avtes and Natalie Williams, releasing their self-titled album in 2015 via Mordant Music.

“Vels d'Èter” is Zuleika AvTes´s first solo album released by the London label Outer Reaches, recorded in London between 2015 and 2022. It includes 20 songs that evoke cinematic soundscapes, wrapped in drones and field recordings. captured in São Paulo and London.

The songs are covered in dense environmental layers, abstract noises surrounded by Zuleika's ethereal vocal that wanders through mysterious and inscrutable passages, when an accordion suddenly emerges on “Girl Spectral”. In the midst of spectral environments, tender and uplifting melodic lines emerge, as suggested in the intimacy of “Rêverie”. A veiled gothic air hangs over “Three of Swords”, while the brief introduction of “Time Before Time (Interlude)” gives way to a song of the afterlife on “Stanotte sull'Atlantico - Part 1” that feels far away and lost. However, on “Sleepwalking” the moment of welcome and enchantment arises again.

On “Hekate” the synthesizers draw an ascending line with several Zuleika vocalizations forming a solemn celestial choir that sails in the heights and meets the disturbing atmospheres of “Lost” and continues on the way to “Le Scelte”. The last introduction on this album is with “Omnia (Interlude)” and its abstract glitchy frequencies are the preamble to “Proměna Magissa”, an impenetrable and somber mass of sound that continues to expand with the drones of “Luna Ellekter”, while the rhythmic pulsations of “Skullrose Fire” can be feel along with the dark and penetrating pads. “SP-2AM” closes the album between the fast-paced synthesized lines and the overlapping and sustained beat that shows Zuleika's minimalist side.

“Vela de’Èter” transports us to a dream journey in which we levitate among gray and pasty landscapes, moving and nostalgic.
