Observatories lo componen los británicos Ian Hawgood y Craig Tattersall, quienes lanzan su tercer álbum luego de “Flowers Bloom, Butterflies Come” (IIKKI, 2021) y “Our Recently Acquired Knowledge” (Enero 2023).

Craig Tattersall  es conocido por su proyecto The Humble Bee, fue fundador del trío de The Boats y ha colaborado con Bill Seaman, Daniel Crossley y Thomas Shrubsole, por nombrar algunos. Fue miembro de la banda Hood a mediados y finales de los ’90, así también en The Remote Viewer.

Ian Hawgood dirige y es curador de Home Normal, etiqueta que reúne a una interesante camada de artistas del ambient, además de ser uno de los ingenieros de masterización más demandados. Ian tiene más de 50 discos editados en solitario y en colaboración con otros artistas.

Ambos son de los músicos más destacados en la escena ambient que esculpen sus canciones con una delicadeza y detalles inigualables. Verdaderos artesanos en el uso de la combinación de sonidos y melodías, a través del trabajo detallista con cintas, loops, piano, grabaciones de campo y elementos electroacústicos. 

El álbum abre con “frost laced fields” en el que se escucha la presión de un botón de una grabadora de cassette (o cinta magnética) que muestra un sonido triturado envuelto en un loop que tiene un efecto hipnótico. En “rain patters” se desenvuelven sintetizadores aéreos que se expanden en el horizonte que continuan navegando en “wooden boulder. En “picking up stones” flotan bellas notas de piano, grabaciones del ambiente y nubes de sintes. En “rain patterns” los elementos electroacústicos hacen una simbiosis con sonidos fragmentados. “freezing oil heart” que cierra el disco, es un loop que contiene sonidos de cinta junto a preciosas melodías que se sumergen en la intimidad del oyente.

Ian Hawgood y Craig Tattersall son escultores sonoros que presentan un álbum atmosférico con piezas cautivadoras que crean paisajes sonoros cinematográficos de ensueño.

Craig Tattersall is known for his project The Humble Bee, was a founder member of the trio The Boats and has collaborated with Bill Seaman, Daniel Crossley and Thomas Shrubsole, to name a few. A former member of the band Hood in the mid-to-late '90s, and in The Remote Viewer.

Ian Hawgood runs and curates Home Normal, a label that brings together an interesting group of ambient artists, in addition to being one of the most in-demand mastering engineers. Ian has more than 50 albums released solo and in collaboration with other artists.

Both are among the most renown musicians in the ambient scene who sculpt their songs with unmatched delicacy and details. True artisans in the use of the combination of sounds and melodies, through detailed work with tapes, loops, piano, field recordings and electroacoustic elements.

The album opens with “frost laced fields” in which you hear the pressing of a button on a cassette (or magnetic tape) recorder that displays a shredded sound wrapped in a loop that has a hypnotic effect. In “rain patters” airy synth textures unfold expanding on the horizon that continue fluidly in “wooden boulder.” In “picking up stones” beautiful piano notes, ambient recordings and hovering clouds of synths. In “rain patterns” the electroacoustic elements create a symbiosis with fragmented sounds whereas “freezing oil heart,” closes the album with a loop that contains tape sounds along side fascinating melodies that immerse the listener in the intimacy. 

Ian Hawgood and Craig Tattersall are sound sculptors who unfurl an atmospheric album with captivating pieces creating dreamy cinematic soundscapes.
