Para celebrar sus 25 años My Cat Is An Alien formado a finales de 1997, en Torino, Italia, por los hermanos Roberto y Maurizio Opalio, editaron en su sello Elliptical Noise una caja de 15 CD’s además de un libro de arte de 100 páginas. 

Su trayectoria involucra su trabajo en películas, vídeos, instalaciones audiovisuales, poesía, dibujo, fotografía, pintura y una producción musical de más de 100 discos en las corrientes musicales folk, noise, psicodelia y drone, donde la improvisación juega un papel fundamental en el despliegue de su propuesta.

"Spiritual Noise ___ RINASCIMENTO" llevó casi dos años de trabajo y un año en el proceso de grabación – entre 2021 – 2022 – en sus estudios en los Alpes Occidentales. 

La declaración que hace MCIAA acerca de RINASCIMENTO (RENACIMIENTO) indica que ellos tuvieron que resetear sus mentes extraterrestres para reconectar con el Pasado/Presente/Futuro – especialmente el Futuro – Renacimiento es 100% Futuro en el Presente. Esta dualidad temporal o la dimensión espacio-tiempo adquieren significado para MCIAA encuentra nuevas razones para sobrevivir.

Esta caja de 15 CD’s se publica en formato CD-R para hacer tributo a la forma de “hazlo tú mismo” que inspiró los comienzos del dúo. Contiene cinco horas y media de material nuevo inédito, donde cada sonido tiene su propio espacio y se convierta en una pieza musical individual. Así también el orden de los tracks puede ser reordenado por el oyente. En todo caso, cada pieza no debe ser considerada sino como una función de la obra entera.

En este box set Maurizio Opalio toca instrumento de cuerda de doble cuerpo autofabricados, efectos de pedal; caja, tom de piso, platillos, platillo de campana, loops de percusión en tiempo real y efectos (tracks 6 y 9) y tambor de lavadora (track 13). En tanto Roberto Opalio se encarga de las vocalizaciones sin palabras, alientrónica, efectos de pedal, caja de ritmos analógica modificada; platillos y cadenas de bolas (track 6); bodhrán (track 3); tambor de lavadora y loops bodhran en tiempo real (track 13).

En “Breaking This Darkness”, que abre este box set, muestra timbres metálicos agudos que podrían efectos de pedales, además de algunos latigazos de sintetizador análogo, junto a la omnipresentes e inconfundibles vocalizaciones sin palabras que parecen viajar a lugares remotos. Tan lejos como las notas sintetizadas de “Warriors Of The Sun” destinadas a alcanzar la estrella ardiente, mientras las cuerdas se desparraman despavoridas como si estuvieran huyendo de este mundo. En esta vorágine llega la calma aparente que se desarrolla en varios tracks como “Ritual Of Spiritual Rebirth I” donde el ruido se reduce en polvo cósmico. Los objetos son agitados hasta encontrar ciertos tonos que son como una capa de fondo sobre la cual texturas electrónicas flotan en el ambiente. “Revenge Of Native Aliens” está envuelta en loops de pulsaciones eléctricas, en tanto en “Vertical Perspectives” se escuchan algunos tonos melódicos que tintinean resplandeciendo con una luz brillante y bella. Esa Luz guía para darle “forma a la materia oscura y transformarla en nueva luz-vida-energía-autoconciencia”, como afirma MCIAA. El carácter ceremonial como si fuera para una fiesta pagana se devela en el track “Fury Of The Alien Gods”, junto a una percusión insistente que crea un halo misterioso y oscuro que “Aliencentricism” profundiza. “Alienophony” invita a un viaje a las estrellas cuyos espirales de sinte análogo se vuelven hipnóticos. “Visions Of The Eternal Light” se expande a través de los sinuosos líneas de sinte que se abren y parecen abrazar el más allá. “In Spiritual Noise We Dissolve”, que cierra el álbum, es un título que describe muy bien a MCIAA pues el ruido ha sido en un elemento muy presente en la música de los hermanos Opalio, pero es un ruido que deja espacio para que este se disuelva en la atmósfera que crea y en la experiencia inmersiva a la que invita al oyente.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, My Cat Is An Alien, formed in Torino, Italy, in the late of 1997 by the brothers Roberto and Maurizio Opalio, released a box set of 15 CDs on their Elliptical Noise label together with an art book of 100 pages.

His career involves his work in films, videos, audiovisual installations, poetry, drawing, photography, painting and a musical production of more than 100 releases in the folk, noise, psychedelic and drone musical styles, where improvisation plays a key role in the deployment of their proposal.

“Spiritual Noise ___ RINASCIMENTO” has been worked for almost two years, plus a year in the recording process (between 2021 – 2022) in their studio in the Western Alps.

The statement for RINASCIMENTO (RENAISSANCE) was “we had to re-set our Alien Minds to re-connect to the Present/Past/Future – specially the Future – Rinascimento is 100% Future in Present.” This temporary duality or the space-time dimension acquires meaning for MCIAA finding new reasons to survive.

This 15-CD box set is released on CD-R format to pay tribute to the do-it-yourself aesthetic that inspired the duo's beginnings. It contains 5.5 hours of previously unreleased new material, where each sound has its own space and becomes an individual piece of music. Likewise, the order of the tracks can be rearranged by each listener. However, each piece should not be considered except as a function of the entire work.

In this box set Maurizio Opalio plays self-made double-bodied string instrument, pedal effects; snare drum, floor tom, cymbals, bell cymbal, real-time percussion loops & effects (tracks 6 and 9); washing machine drum (track 13). Whereas Roberto Opalio is on wordless vocalizations, alientronics, pedal effects, modified analog drum machine; cymbals & ball chains (track 6); bodhran (track 3); washing machine drum, real-time bodhran loops (track 13).

Opening this box set, “Breaking This Darkness” showcases high-pitched metallic timbres that could be pedal effects, plus some analog synth washes, alongside the ubiquitous and unmistakable wordless vocalizations that seem to travel to faraway places. The “Warriors Of The Sun” synth notes intended to reach the burning star, while the strings scatter in terror as if they were fleeing from this world. Into this maelstrom comes the apparent calm that unfold on several tracks like “Ritual Of Spiritual Rebirth I” where noise is reduced to cosmic dust. The objects are shaken until they find certain tones that are like a background layer on which electronic textures float in the environment. “Revenge Of Native Aliens” is wrapped in loops of electric pulsations, while “Vertical Perspectives” features some tinkling melodic tones glowing with bright and beautiful light. That guiding Light “to shape the dark matter and transform it into new light-life-energy-self-consciousness,” as MCIAA states.

The ceremonial character as if it were for a pagan party is revealed in the track "Fury Of The Alien Gods" together with an insistent percussion that creates a mysterious and dark halo that "Aliencentricism" deepens. “Alienophony” invites you on a journey to the stars whose analog synth spirals become hypnotic. “Visions Of The Eternal Light” expands through sinuous synth lines that open up and seem to embrace the afterlife. "In Spiritual Noise We Dissolve", which closes the album, is a title that describes MCIAA very well since noise has been a very present element in the music of the Opalio brothers, but it is a noise that leaves room which dissolves in the atmosphere that creates, and in the immersive experience to which it invites the listener.
