David Lee Myers es un prolífico artista sonoro, visual y músico experimental que trabaja con el seudónimo de Arcane Device. 

En sus composiciones emplea electrónica modular, matrices de feedback, texturas de guitarra, diversidad de tonos y variantes polirítmicas. Su estudio y sello Pulsewidth acaba de lanzar su segundo disco en este año "Gagaku" (es el arte escénico tradicional más antiguo del Japón), en cuyo carácter ceremonial se produce cierta tensión y tonos vacilantes llenos de misterio donde las voces retorcidas crean un nuevo acto en esta performance imaginaria. Las notas sintéticas dan paso a ruidos angulosos que se expanden y estrechan, se comprimen y se trituran. Sigilo y arcano es el telón de fondo de “Gagaku” con sus largos cantos lentos procesados, donde es posible vislumbrar la mímica coreográfica. “Kebyar” (un baile balinés) muestra nuevas tonalidades con lo que parece ser una kalimba que genera un ambiente ensoñador. “Tea sacrament” es una combinación de ruidos y campanillas que flotan en el aire, mientras que en el oscuro “Ossuaires” los sonidos emergentes son una danza sobre la base de un drone, en la que “Masks III” configura distintos actos a partir del grito del samurái. “Footpath” cierra un disco introspectivo, denso, cuya diversidad de tonos, - muchos de ellos indescriptibles -, son amalgamados creando por un lado, un lenguaje acuoso, orgánico y por el otro imaginativo y evocador. Una buena forma de entender el “Gagaku” es escuchar los sonidos abstractos de Myers.

David Lee Myers is a prolific experimental sound artist, visual artist, and musician who works with the alias of Arcane Device.

In the compositions he uses modular electronics, feedback matrices, guitar textures, a wide range of tones and polyrhythmic variants. Pulsewidth, his studio and label, just released the sophomore album in this year "Gagaku" (it is Japan's oldest traditional performing art), which reveals a ceremonial character in which there is a certain tension and wavering tones full of mystery where the twisted voices create a new act in this imaginary performance. Synthetic notes giving way to angular noises that stretch and tighten, compress and crush. Stealth and arcane is the backdrop for “Gagaku” with its long slow processed chants, where it is possible to glimpse the choreographic mime. “Kebyar” (a Balinese dance) displays new tonalities with what is like a kalimba unfolding a dreamy atmosphere. "Tea sacrament" is a combination of noises and bells that float in the air, while in the dark "Ossuaires" the emerging sounds are a dance based on a drone, in which "Masks III" configures different acts from the shout of the Samurai. “Footpath” closes an introspective, dense album, whose diversity of tones, -most of them indescribable-, are amalgamated creating, on the one hand, a watery, organic language and on the other, imaginative and evocative. A good way to understand the "Gagaku" is to listen to the abstract sounds of Myers.
