Lo Escucho, Lo Pinto son los chilenos Iván Daguer, Álvaro Daguer, Tomás Salvatierra y el artista escocés Sholto Dobie. A excepción de Dobie, el resto son gran parte de la banda Glorias Navales que publicaría “Cofradía Naútica (2016) para el extinto sello dirigido por Graham Lambkin, Kye Records. Un disco de folk, sobrio y profundo, en la línea del disco que nos ocupa, editado por el sello británico All Night Flight Records.

“Lo Escucho, Lo Pinto” fue grabado en Chile en un viaje por Los Ángeles, Huepil, Concepción y Santiago, durante enero y febrero de 2022. Tocaron en forma gratuita en plazas y parques sin previo aviso y con la sola presencia de los parroquianos de cada lugar. Me los puedo imaginar con sus cabezas agachas tocando las guitarras acústicas, las flautas, un sinte, algún instrumento de percusión y cuerda y una grabadora captando el ambiente. Desde luego en un espacio de improvisación y libre, donde sólo la conexión entre ellos expandía la duración de cada canción. ¿Algún día sabremos qué opinaban el público oyente? ¿Qué les pasaba con esta música folclórica y experimental? Es interesante escuchar los diálogos de niños(as) con sus padres y a un volumen por sobre la música (“Bandera Negra”). El entorno se transforma en la propia música, con sus pausas, chillidos y silencios. Los perros callejeros, los pájaros y las gaviotas también ofrecen su propia música, mientras unos pocos acordes comienzan a hilvanarse y el tambor va marcando un ritmo cansino, junto a una lánguida armónica. “Mistral” cierra un álbum que se siente hipnótico porque se escucha como un murmullo en un medio ambiente apacible que invita a dejarse llevar.

Lo Escucho, Lo Pinto (I listen to it, I paint it) are the Chileans Iván Daguer, Álvaro Daguer, Tomás Salvatierra and Scottish artist Sholto Dobie. With the exception of Dobie, the rest are almost all the members of the Glorias Navales band that would publish “Cofradía Naútica (2016) for the extinct label run by Graham Lambkin, Kye Records. A sober and deep folk record, along the lines of the record at hand, released by the British label All Night Flight Records.

"Lo Escucho, Lo Pinto" was recorded in Chile on a trip through Los Angeles, Huepil, Concepción and Santiago, during January and February 2022. They played for free in squares and parks without prior notice and with the mere attendance of the people of each place. I can imagine them with their heads down, playing acoustic guitars, flutes, synth, some percussion a string instrument, and a tape recorder capturing the sound environment. Of course, in a free and improvisational space, where the connection between them expanded the duration of each song. Will we ever know what the listening public thought? What happened to them with this folk and experimental music? It is interesting to listen to the dialogues of the children with their parents and at a volume above the music (“Bandera Negra”). The environment is transformed into the music itself, with its pauses, squeals and silences. Stray dogs, birds and seagulls also offer their own music, as a few chords begin to thread together and the drum beats out a weary rhythm, along with a languid harmonica. “Mistral” closes an album that feels hypnotic because it is heard like a murmur in a peaceful environment that invites you to get carried away.
