En 1983 Daniel Burke afincado en Chicago crea el proyecto en curso Illusion Of Safety con el que ha trabajado en solitario y con muchos colaboradores(as) como Jon Mueller, Randy Greif, Darin Gray, Z'EV, Cheer-Accident, Thomas Dimuzio, Kevin Drumm, Jeff Jerman, Eric Lunde, Bill Horist, Al Margolis, Olivia Block, Travis Bird y otros artistas.
Dan Burke trabaja en la composición electrónica, enraizada en la electroacústica, noise, post-industrial, ambient. Es uno de los músicos más relevantes, junto a referencias como SPK, Arcane Device, Asmus Tietchens, Rapoon, Thomas Dimuzio, Randy Greif, entre otros artistas.
Se cumplen 40 años desde la creación de IOF publicando más de 30 discos, cintas y CD’s en Complacency, Odd-Size, Staalplaat, Tesco, Silent, Soleilmoon, Korm Plastics, Experimedia, Waystyx, Drone, No Part Of It, Mort Aux Vaches, Silent, Die Stadt, entre otras etiquetas.
Ha realizado más de 300 conciertos en Norte América y Europa y ha compuesto música para obras de danza moderna.
Los recientes discos de IOS fueron en 2022 con la publicación de “New Rules, Same Game, Less Instruction”, segundo lanzamiento de la nueva serie de CD "SYM", de Drone Records, publicado a principios de 2022. A finales del año pasado se lanzó en vinilo de 12″ en el sello No Part Of It is, la tan esperada colaboración entre el extinto percusionista Z'EV e Illusion Of Safety. Una colaboración por correo que comenzó en 2008 y finalizó en 2012 con hermosas ilustraciones de Bradley Kokay.
“Organ Choir Drone” me parece es parte composición, parte improvisación, además de grabaciones obtenidas de distintas fuentes encontradas. Prevalece una atmósfera enrarecida, oscura y vacilante, alimentada de ruidos retorcidos, orgánicos, realizados a través de sintetizadores y otros dispositivos electrónicos, cuyos sonidos son densamente procesados, revoloteando en todas las direcciones en el espacio. Una madeja cinemática que gatilla imágenes abstractas y esquizofrénicas que se vierten en la apertura “Ripped Continuum” y “Children Of The Fear Of Light”. En “Organic Pistons” los teclados etéreos invaden el entorno con su ambient ensoñador. En “Waste Of Civilization“ se interceptan grabaciones de radio de onda corta o similar, cubriendo el ambiente de incertidumbre. Estos diálogos indistinguibles sólo causan inquietud, ahora alimentada con los “Black Helicopters” que surcan por el cielo amenazantes evocando tiempos de guerra que vive el mundo. Los oscuros sonidos en “Groundswell Horns” son la antesala para “Blackout”, una pieza que se mueve sigilosa, que pasa inadvertida, pero no por eso, atemorizadora. “Edge Of Crisis” que cierra el álbum, comienza con una retorcida grabación de "My Time Is Yours" del dúo Effective Force que dice, “no te preocupes, no te preocupes”... Luego emerge una grabación con la voz de una niña que se combina con un drone y palpitantes clicks. Daniel Burke crea ambientes evocadores y perturbadores, cuya atmósfera se adaptaría bien a la banda sonora de una versión cinematográfica.

“Organ Choir Drone” seems to be part composition, part improvisation, plus recordings obtained from different found sources. A rarefied, dark and wavering atmosphere prevails, fed by twisted, organic noises, made through synthesizers and other electronic devices, whose sounds are densely processed, fluttering in all directions in space. A cinematic skein that triggers abstract and schizophrenic images that pour into the opening “Ripped Continuum” and “Children Of The Fear Of Light”. In "Organic Pistons" the ethereal keyboards invade the environment with their dreamy ambient. On "Waste Of Civilization" shortwave or similar radio recordings are intercepted, covering the environment of uncertainty. These indistinguishable dialogues only cause fear, now fueled by the "Black Helicopters" that fly through the sky threateningly, evoking times of war that the world lives. The dark sounds in “Groundswell Horns” are the prelude to “Blackout”, a piece that moves stealthily, and goes unnoticed, but not for that reason, frightening. "Edge Of Crisis" which closes the album, begins with a twisted recording of "My Time Is Yours" by the duo Effective Force, that says, “never mind, never mind”... Then a recording of a girl's voice emerges, combined with a drone and throbbing clicks. Daniel Burke creates evocative and disturbing environments, whose atmosphere would be well suited to soundtrack a film version.
