Este es el tercer disco de la diseñadora sonora y compositora italo-holandesa radicada en Berlín, Aimée Portioli, conocida como Grand River, quien dedica este álbum al fundador de Editions Mego, Peter Rehberg, quien murió repentinamente el año pasado. Portioli también gestiona el sello One Instrument.

En este disco nuestra protagonista vocaliza, toca piano, cuerdas, órganos, guitarras y sintetizadores. En “All Above” el piano es un instrumento con una presencia central, mientras se despliegan oleadas de colchones ambientales y arpegios de sintetizadores que evocan a Tangerine Dream. Aquí entonces conviven elementos electrónicos y acústicos están enraizados en los estilos Kosmische Musik y el Ambient. No obstante las fronteras entre los estilos es borrosa, lo que es evidente en la apertura “Quasicristallo” en el que encontramos un piano nostálgico en el que se despliegan unas pocas notas que giran en torno a un loop. “Human” es una canción inspiradora de melodías edificantes que comienza con una línea sintetizada de bajo y un arpegio sintetizado que alcanza gran altura, mientras un coro de fondo le da un carácter épico a esta magnífica pieza. En “Petrichor” asoma el órgano cubriendo todo el espacio, mientras que en “The World At Number XX” los pads del sintetizador son el preámbulo de un viaje cósmico a lo Edgar Froese. “Kura” nos lleva un territorio Ambient – dub, en tanto que “Cost What It May” que cierra este álbum, produce notas sintetizadas entrecortadas cuya secuencia repetitiva resuena hasta desvanecerse. 

Grand River no sólo dedica este disco a Peter Rehberg, sino que también evoca a uno de los máximos referentes de la música electrónica, junto a un prolijo trabajo de composición.

This is the third album by Berlin-based Italian-Dutch sound designer and composer Aimée Portioli, aka Grand River, who dedicates this album to the founder of Editions Mego, Peter Rehberg, who died suddenly last year. Portioli also runs the One Instrument label.

On this album our protagonist vocalizes, plays the piano, strings, organs, guitars and synthesizers. On “All Above” the piano is an instrument with a central presence, as waves of ambient pads and synth arpeggios evoking Tangerine Dream unfurl. Here, then, electronic and acoustic elements are rooted in Kosmische Musik and Ambient styles. However, the borders between these styles are blurred, which is evident in the opening “Quasicristallo” in which we find a nostalgic piano in which a few notes hover around a loop. “Human” is an inspiring song of uplifting melodies that begins with a synth bass line and a soaring synth arpeggio, while a background chorus adds an epic character to this mesmerizing piece. On “Petrichor” the organ appears covering the entire space, while on “The World At Number XX” the synthesizer pads are the preamble to a cosmic journey a la Edgar Froese. "Kura" takes us into Ambient-dub territory, while "Cost What It May" that closes this album, produces broken synth notes whose repetitive sequence resonates until it fade away. 

Grand River not only dedicates this album to Peter Rehberg, but also evokes one of the greatest exponents of electronic music.
