James Varghese es un artista, bajista y fundador de Quiet Love Records quien reside en Zúrich. Se formó como bajista de jazz con una maestría en la escuela de jazz de Zúrich, fue bajista pop, productor indie y compositor y productor de música electrónica.

Este es el primer EP Varghese y primer proyecto en solitario que comenzó durante su residencia en Londres la que fue concedida por el gobierno de Suiza en 2019.

Una vez de regreso en Suiza se puso en contacto con quienes dirigen el Museo Suizo y Centro de Instrumentos de Música Electrónica (el  museo de sintetizadores más grande del mundo). Allí fue invitado a pasar 3 días y 3 noches rodeado de algunos de los sintetizadores más oscuros y raros de todos los tiempos. El instrumento que llamó más la atención de James, fue aquel cuyo sonido evocaba sentimientos melancólicos y de exaltación al mismo tiempo, los que se pueden asociar a las emociones de la tristeza y la alegría. Dos emociones diferentes, a veces contrapuestas que seguramente Varguese experimentó mientras tocaba el sintetizador elegido. En “Fairfield Rd” denota cierta nostalgia, en tanto que “Juno Fades” con sus notas vacilantes despliega una bella danza. “222” que finaliza este EP continua en la línea ambiental melancólica junto a una sublime melodía que evoca la exaltación.

Lo peor que se puede decir de “Ambient 1” es que ninguno de los tracks supera los seis minutos. Pero probablemente tendremos más música para escuchar de nuestro protagonista.

James Varghese is an artist, bassist and founder of Quiet Love Records based in Zurich. He trained as a jazz bassist with a masters degree from the Zurich jazz school, played bass in  pop bands, indie producer and composer and producer of electronic music.

This is Varghese's first EP and his first solo project started during his residency in London which was granted by the Swiss government in 2019.

Once back in Switzerland he got in touch with the people who run the Swiss Museum and Center for Electronic Music Instruments (the world's largest synthesizer museum). He was invited to spend 3 days and 3 nights surrounded by some of the most obscure and weird synths of all time. The instrument that caught James' attention the most was the one whose sound evoked feelings of melancholy and exaltation at the same time, which can be associated with the emotions of sadness and joy. Two different, sometimes conflicting emotions that Varghese surely experienced while playing the chosen synthesizer. In 'Fairfield Rd' unveils a certain nostalgia, whereas 'Juno Fades' with its wavering notes unfolds a beautiful dance. '222' that ends this EP continues in the melancholic ambient vein together with a sublime melody that evokes exaltation.

The worst thing to be said about 'Ambient 1' is that none of the tracks exceeds six minutes. But we will probably have more music to listen to from our protagonist.
