Michel Leroy es un músico experimental y filósofo chileno quien actualmente reside en la Serena, Chile. Leroy tiene una trayectoria de 19 años, trabajando con su propio nombre, bajo su apodo Thanatoloop y como miembro de la banda Un Festín Sagital. Es fundador del sello y estudio Templo Sagital que ha editado a Edward Ka Spel (Legendary Pink Dots), Nadja y Thisquietarmy, entre otros músicos y grupos.
Por su parte, el músico inglés Edward Ka Spel, líder de la mítica banda de música experimental y psicodélica, Legendary Pink Dots (LPD) se formó en Londres en 1980 y en 1984 se mudó a Amsterdam, Países Bajos. LPD tiene una extensa discografía de alrededor de 200 discos, e integra proyectos paralelos como Mimir y The Tear Garden.
En 2008, LPD estuvieron en Chile tocando en Santiago y Valparaíso y fue en esa oportunidad que se realizó una sesión de improvisación entre Michel Leroy, Edward Ka Spel y Phil Knight aka The Silverman, más invitados que se editó en enero de 2014 en Templo Sagital con el título de "A Ripple on the Richter Scale - Part 1”. En esta sesión Edward Ka-Spel tocó teclados y electrónica, Michel Leroy, piano, violín (parte 4), voz y electrónica y The Silverman, teclados, electrónica y órgano Hammond. Como invitados: Constanza Lagos en flauta, el LPD Barry Gray (fallecido en febrero de 2021) en guitarra eléctrica, Diego Pinto en batería y Paulo Rojas en violín (Partes I y II).
En "A Ripple on the Richter Scale - Part 1”, se despliega una amalgama de sonidos que contiene ráfagas de guitarra, sintetizadores turbulentos, piano sepulcral, voces fantasmagóricas y violín desafinado. Todo ello crea una atmósfera enrarecida y caótica. No obstante, la calma llega en “Part III” con las notas ceremoniales del órgano Hammond y el piano que despliega una bella melodía. La música parece ser sacada de algún cuento de héroes y villanos, donde se mezclan la alucinación y el desvarío. En “Part IV” las revoltosas líneas de teclados continúan delirando junto a las guitarras distorsionadas, mientras la batería asoma revoltosa con sus disparatados golpes a la batería.
"A Ripple on the Richter Scale - Part 2” se editó en abril de este año y también por Templo Sagital. Participaron en este disco Michel Leroy toca el piano y Edward Ka-Spel, en voz y varios dispositivos. Michel envió a Edward en Londres, una colección de piezas para piano hechas en su casa en Santiago de Chile.
Esta segunda parte arranca con “Headcase” con una de piano fúnebre y solemne que continua desplegándose en “Number’s up”. “If stars were wishes” sugiere un movimiento alado y al mismo tiempo espectral que evoca imágenes cinemáticas que seducen por la misteriosa aura que rodea a estos músicos.
En este disco hay una acumulación compleja, pero exuberante, de lenguaje y texturas sonoras, realizadas con maestría por nuestros connotados protagonistas.

Michel Leroy is a Chilean experimental musician and philosopher based in La Serena, Chile. Leroy has a 19-year career, working with his own name, under his moniker Thanatoloop and as a member of the band Un Festín Sagittal. He is the founder of the studio and label Templo Sagital that has released a special roster such as Edward Ka Spel (Legendary Pink Dots), Nadja and Thisquietarmy, among other artists and groups.
English musician Edward Ka Spel, leader of the renown experimental and psychedelic music band, Legendary Pink Dots (LPD) was formed in London in 1980. In 1984 the group moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. LPD has an extensive discography of around 200 albums, and they run side projects such as Mimir and The Tear Garden.
In 2008, LPD visited Chile playing in Santiago and Valparaíso and it was on that occasion that an improvisation session was held between Michel Leroy, Edward Ka Spel and Phil Knight aka The Silverman, plus guests. The session was released in January 2014 on Templo Sagittal imprint under the title of ‘A Ripple on the Richter Scale - Part 1’. In this session Edward Ka-Spel played keyboards and electronics, Michel Leroy, piano, violin (part 4), voice and electronics and LPD member The Silverman, keyboards, electronics and Hammond organ. As guests: Constanza Lagos on flute, LPD member Barry Gray (passed away in February 2021) on electric guitar, Diego Pinto on drums and Paulo Rojas on violin (Parts I and II).
In ‘A Ripple on the Richter Scale - Part 1’, an amalgamation of sounds unfolds gusty guitars, turbulent synths, sepulchral piano, ghostly vocals and out of tune violin. All this creates a rarefied and chaotic ambience. However, the calm arrives in ‘Part III’ with the Hammond organ ceremonial notes, and the piano that unfolds a beautiful melody. The music seems to be taken from a story of heroes and villains, where hallucination and delirium are mixed. In ‘Part IV’ the rambunctious keyboard lines continue to rave alongside the distorted guitars, while the drummer pokes out unruly with its crazy drumbeats.
‘A Ripple on the Richter Scale - Part 2’ was released in April 2022 and also by Templo Sagital. Michel Leroy played piano and Edward Ka-Spel: voice and various devices. Michel sent Edward in London, a collection of piano pieces made at his home in Santiago de Chile.
This second part starts with ‘Headcase’ with a funeral and solemn piano that continues to unfold in ‘Number's up’. ‘If stars were wishes’ suggests a winged and at the same time spectral movement that evokes cinematic images that seduce due to the mysterious aura that surrounds both musicians. In this album there is a complex, yet lush, accumulation of sonic textures masterfully performed by our renowned protagonists.
