The Master Musicians Of Jajouka, considered a cult musical group. Since several artists who have gone to Jajouka, Morocco to record on site, such as Ornette Coleman and the Rolling Stones, or have made references to them, such as William Burroughs who called The Master Musicians of Jajouka “the four thousand year-old rock and roll band.” Paul Bowles, the American writer and composer lived with The Master Musicians… until his death. Burroughs's close friend, the painter, writer, sound poet, performer and best known for his use of the cut-up technique, Brion Gysin (along side Burroughs), was one of the first contemporary Europeans to go and record them in the 1950s. It was Gysin who invited his friend Brian Jones (from the Rolling Stones) to Jajouka and then back in London, Jones released the album “Brian Jones Presents: The Master Musicians of Joujouka” with the cut-up technique, which is considered the first recording of the World Music genre. Furthermore it was the first release on the Rolling Stone Records label. Later, other musicians inspired by the music of the band released recordings such as Bill Laswell and Philip Glass, among others artists.

The Master Musicians are a collective of Jbala Sufi trance creators, performing a contemporary take on their centuries-old musical tradition. The music of this group took the pilgrims who traveled to the sacred sanctuary of Sidi Hamid Sheich, to a state of trance that allowed mental disorders to be cured.

This album was produced by the leader of the band, Bachir Attar. The group, made up of at least nine members, are well-known because they are able to blow a continuous note and still breathe. Their instruments are wooden flutes, guitars with three chords, and different types of drums, as well as rhaitas (sound similar to bagpipes) that produce a hypnotic music that continues to persevere and whose healing powers can do so much good to our world today.
