La revista on-line The Quietus comentó que Jozef van Wissem, compositor holandés, es probablemente el laudista más conocido de Occidente. Posee un laúd enteramente negro, hecho a medida y único en el mundo. Estudio laúd en Nueva York y ha desarrollado la composición para bandas sonoras, ganando el premio por la partitura de la película “Only Lovers Left Alive” de Jim Jarmusch, en el festival de Cannes en 2013. Fue invitado a interpretar el madrigal representado en el cuadro de Caravaggio “El tocador de laúd” (1596), en el museo Hermitage de San Petersburgo.

“Behold! I Make All Things New” se grabó durante la cuarentena en Varsovia y Rotterdam entre 2019 y 2021, e incluye siete canciones cubiertas de una bella fragilidad, cuyos arreglos consisten en sutiles texturas electrónicas. Aquí convergen la música de vanguardia con la sobriedad de la música del Renacimiento. Donde esto se hace más latente es en “Your Flesh will Rise in Glory on the Day of the Future Resurrection”, cuyos efectos de los dispositivos electrónicos oscuros acompañan los acordes fantasmales. Aunque la columna vertebral de este disco pasa por los paisajes diáfanos, minimalistas y especialmente orientados a resaltar la tradición Cristiana como en “Enter Into the Joy of Our Lord”, donde los acordes forjan sublimes melodías.

Este álbum conmueve por los finos acordes de un laudista barroco en medio de un mundo convulsionado.

The online magazine The Quietus commented that Jozef van Wissem, a Dutch composer, is probably the best-known lute player in the West. He owns an entirely black lute, custom made and unique in the world. He studied lute in New York and has developed the composition for soundtracks, winning the award for the score of the film "Only Lovers Left Alive" by Jim Jarmusch, at the Cannes festival in 2013. He was invited to interpret the madrigal represented in the Caravaggio's painting “The Lute Player” (1596), in the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg.

“Behold! I Make All Things New” was recorded during lockdown in Warsaw and Rotterdam between 2019 and 2021, and includes seven songs covered in beautiful fragility, whose arrangements consist of subtle electronic textures. Here avant-garde music converges with the sobriety of Renaissance music. Where this becomes more latent is in “Your Flesh will Rise in Glory on the Day of the Future Resurrection”, whose effects of dark electronic devices accompany the haunted chords. Although the backbone of this album goes through diaphanous landscapes, minimalist and especially oriented to highlight the Christian tradition as in "Enter Into the Joy of Our Lord", where the chords forge sublime melodies.

This album feels poignant by the fine chords of a baroque lute player in the midst of a troubled world.
