Ben McElroy | "How I Learnt to Disengage From The Pack" | The Slow Music Movement | 2022

Ben McElroy is a musician and composer from the seaside town of West Kirby on The Wirral and now based in Nottingham, UK.

He plays violin, cello, acoustic guitar, accordion, organ, whistles, vocals, and electronics. He has released several albums on labels like Whitelabrecs and self released. He started out making music self-taught and studied music technology at Clarendon College in Nottingham.

The album is part of the ambient, drone and folk styles, whose lo-fi textures give this album an intimate character. In several of his songs, the influence of English folk is appreciated, displaying a pastoral aura with delicate guitar chords, accompanied by violin and McElroy’s whispering voice. Along with this dreamlike environment, a drone emerges and remains as a backdrop, generating a certain tension, being a counterpoint to the peaceful atmosphere that is breathed. Perhaps it is related to to the title song "Bed Down In The Murk", where there is some intriguing. In “Wolves Dance” it looks like something out of a fairy tale, with those dancing flutes and McElroy's hinted singing.

In "How I Learnt to Disengage From The Pack" it is proposed to intervene those bucolic spaces, for others that are committed to rationality.
