VARIÁT | "I Can See Everything From Here" | Prostir + 3 | 2021

Marzo 2022

This is the new project of multidisciplinary artist Ukrainian Dmytro Fedorenko who began in the mid-'90s as a bassist in a jazz-noisy band and then in 1996 became part of the Zet duo.

Together with Andrey Kiritchenko, Kateryna Zavoloka and Alla Zagaykevych, among others, were active artists in the Ukrainian experimental electronic music scene. Several Fedorenko records were released on the legendary NexSound label run by sound artist Andrey Kiritchenko.

Fedorenko is known by his alias Kotra and for the defunct Kvitnu label he run which published several titles by Ukrainian and international artists such as Muslimgauze and Pan Sonic. Together with Zavoloka they formed Cluster Lizard, creating bizarre sci-fi soundtracks and also run their new art label Prostir.

Fedorenko plays guitar, bass, synthesizers and drums producing heavy kick drums and distorted guitars creating impenetrable walls of noise. “There's Lots of Light Leaking All Over” with its bursts of white noise takes over this album like a crushing and unmistakably condescending mass. “Remaining Somewhat Myself” combines the metallic and electric sounds that dose the suffocating atmosphere of the other tracks, generating spaces of silence and hesitancy.

With VARIAT, Fedorenko explores metallic percussions sent through the amplifier, along with drum sounds recorded through perforated cymbals, and hammered timpani. With this instrumental arsenal Fedorenko pushes boundaries and creates new musical ventures.
