Este es el cuarto álbum del proyecto multimedia dirigido por el libanés-canadiense Radwan Ghazi Moumneh combinando rock, electrónica y con influencias de la música del Oriente Medio, para el que contó con colaboradores e invitados: Moor Mother, Tim Hecker, Lucrecia Dalt, Greg Fox, Alanis Obomsawin y Rabih Beanini. Este disco presenta a la nueva miembro de JIMH, la cineasta experimental Erin Weisberger. Moumneh toca el buzuk (laud, original de Palestina, Jordania, Líbano y Siria), dispositivos electrónicos y canta en árabe.

El título de este álbum, "Qalaq" es una palabra árabe que Moumneh la traduce como "profunda preocupación", haciendo referencia al conflicto entre el Líbano y Beirut y de ahí la portada del álbum que consiste en una fotografía elocuente de la revolución de octubre de 2019 en Beirut.

Este álbum transmite sentido de urgencia, miedo y el ambiente beligerante del Oriente Medio y en tal sentido tiene desde momentos álgidos que se explican por el conflicto y que se plasma a través de la electrónica zigzagueante en “Abyad Barraq” que abre el álbum, junto con la batería apabullante de Greg Fox. La electrónica rugosa y retorcida de “Qalaq 2” con Roger Tellier Craig, la electrónica flotante de “Tanto” interpretada por Lucrecia Dalt, el poema oscuro de Moor Mother en el track “Qalaq 3”. La guitarra filosa y angustiante en “Ana Lisan Wahad con Farida Amadou & Pierre-Guy Blanchard”. Momentos vacilantes con el acompañamiento de flautas crean colchones ambient en “Qalaq 4” con Rabih Beaini. El canto encantador en “Qalaq 5” con Oiseau-Tempête y el discurso en árabe entrecortado y comprimido por la electrónica. En “Qalaq 7” con Tim Hecker se despliega lánguidas guitarras junto a puzantes notas sintetizadas. 

"Qalaq"es un disco que comprende una densa capa de electrónica y percusión e instrumentos acústicos que generan una atmósfera abrumadora y al mismo tiempo conmovedora.

This is the fourth album of the multimedia project directed by the Lebanese-Canadian Radwan Ghazi Moumneh combining rock, electronic and Middle Eastern music influences, for which it had collaborators and guests: Moor Mother, Tim Hecker, Lucrecia Dalt, Greg Fox, Alanis Obomsawin, and Rabih Beanini. This album features JIMH's newest member, experimental filmmaker Erin Weisberger, in which Moumneh plays the buzuk (lute, originally from Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria), electronic devices, and sings in Arabic.

The title of this album, "Qalaq", is an Arabic word that Moumneh translates as "deep concern", referring to the conflict between Lebanon and Beirut and hence the album cover consisting of a photograph of Beirut’s October Revolution in 2019.

This album transmits a sense of urgency, fear and the belligerent atmosphere of the Middle East and in this sense, it has from high moments that are explained by the conflict and that is reflected through the zigzagging electronics in “Abyad Barraq” the opener of the album, together with the overwhelming drums of Greg Fox. The rough and twisted electronics of “Qalaq 2” with Roger Tellier Craig, the hovering electronics on “Tanto” performed by Lucrecia Dalt, the Moor Mother’s dark poem on the track “Qalaq 3”. A sharp and harrowing guitar on “Ana Lisan Wahad with Farida Amadou & Pierre-Guy Blanchard”. Wavering moments with a flute and its echoes that create ambient mattresses on “Qalaq 4” with Rabih Beaini. The haunted singing on “Qalaq 5” with Oiseau-Tempête and the speech in Arabic broken and compressed by electronics. On “Qalaq 7” with Tim Hecker, languid guitars are displayed alongside powerful synthesized notes.

"Qalaq" is an album that comprises a dense layer of electronics, percussion and acoustic instruments that create an unsteady and at the same time a poignant

atmosphere.
