Alan Licht es guitarrista de improvisación, escritor y miembro de los grupos de rock de vanguardia Run On, Love Child y Blue Humans, además, contribuye en ‘The Wire’.

Es uno de los íconos de la música de vanguardia de Nueva York y toca en varias bandas como Blue Humans, Lee Ranaldo And The Dust, Lee Ranaldo Band, Licht-Akiyama Trios, Mandarin Movie, Run On, Supreme Indifference, Text Of Light, The Alan Licht / Loren Mazzacane-Connors Ensemble, entre otras agrupaciones.

Este material es inédito y corresponde al primer lanzamiento de la serie que se publica en formato de cassette por el sello australiano Room40, dirigido por Lawrence English. El cassette también incluye una entrevista impresa entre Licht y English, la que trata de la década de carrera del músico de Nueva York y su aproximación a la improvisación y minimalismo. 

Licht comenta en la nota de prensa que "’A Symphony Strikes the Moment You Arrive’ fue una actuación en vivo en el PA's Lounge en Cambridge, en un cartel con Major Stars y un trío de corta duración de Chris Brokaw, Doug McCombs y Elliott Dicks.” En tanto que “’Room For Storms’, surgió cuando la videoartista Birgit Rathsmann se puso en contacto conmigo de la nada para preguntarme si podía tocar un acompañamiento en vivo para un video que estaba haciendo basado en imágenes satelitales de huracanes.” 

“A Symphony…” es un set de radio de onda corta que Licht amplifica y distorsiona, creando una muralla de ruido y drones. Se escuchan también voces y la música de una cantante pop que intentan articularse. Esta última sugiere una sensación extraña pues rompe el esquema y quizás por eso mismo que emerge en el momento adecuado en este track.

“Room For Storms” es el despliegue en toda su potencialidad de la guitarra que extiende por largos 15 minutos que viene a ser la “banda sonora” de las imágenes satelitales de huracanes. Y por lo mismo que la convulsión y el ruido son parte sustancial en este track.  

Licht nos deleita con dos contundentes piezas que, desde la improvisación, conforman una sólida exploración sonora en base a una estética minimalista.

Alan Licht is an improv guitarist, writer and member of the cutting-edge rock groups Run On, Love Child, and Blue Humans. and a contributor in ‘The Wire’ magazine.

This material with previously unreleased music corresponds to the first release of the series released on cassette format by Australian Room40 label, run and curated by Lawrence English. The cassette also includes a printed interview between Licht and English, which deals with the New York musician's decade of career and his approach to improvisation and minimalism.

Licht declares in the press-release that “’A Symphony Strikes the Moment You Arrive’ was a live performance at PA’s Lounge in Cambridge, on a bill with Major Stars and a short-lived trio of Chris Brokaw, Doug McCombs, and Elliott Dicks.”As for "Room For Storms" he said: “came about when the video artist Birgit Rathsmann contacted me out of the blue to ask about playing a live accompaniment to a video she was doing based on satellite footage of hurricanes.”

"A Symphony ..." is a shortwave radio set that Licht amplifies and distorts, creating a wall of noise and drones. Voices and the music of a pop singer are also heard trying to articulate themselves. The latter suggests a strange sensation because it breaks the scheme and perhaps for that very reason that it emerges at the right moment in this track.

"Room For Storms" is the unfolding in all its potential of the guitar that extends for 15 minutes long that becomes the "soundtrack" of the satellite images of hurricanes. And for the same reason that seizure and noise are a substantial part of this track.

Licht delights us with two forceful pieces that, from improvisation, make up a solid sound exploration based on a minimalist aesthetic.
