Passepartout Duo es un grupo musical compuesto por la pianista Nicoletta Favari y el percusionista Christopher Salvito, quienes trabajan en el terreno de la música experimental con instrumentos acústicos de percusión, piano y teclados analógicos. Han participado en importantes festivales y colaborado con artistas de Asia y Europa con motivo de los permanentes viajes que realizan.

“Epigrams” se compuso durante una residencia en la AIR Niederösterreich en Krems, Austria, oportunidad en la que trabajaron con el sintetizador modular Buchla de la serie 100, que se encuentra entre los instrumentos Buchla más antiguos en uso. Éste fue construido por Don Buchla en 1967 para el compositor Ernst Krenek.

Al comenzar la residencia se le presentó al dúo una composición de Krenek compuesta para sintetizador modular y dos pianos, lo que motivó a Nicoletta y Christopher para que trabajaran con estos instrumentos, utilizando técnicas como el piano preparado, punteo de cuerdas y armónicos. 

El sintetizador Buchla estaba conectado al piano, pudiendo tocarlo a través de unas plaquetas de metal. “En “Epigram 1” los sonidos abstractos del sintetizador se mezclan con las notas entrecortas del piano, en tanto en “Epigram 2” las melodías fluyen y despliegan sus alas donde el piano aporta sus altas y bellas notas. En el silencioso “Epigrama IV” al parecer se trabaja con el piano preparado, creando un espacio armónico. El último track “Epigram 5” la nota constante del piano preparado, convive con un patrón vacilante que se desliza sobre unas pocas notas del piano.

Passepartout Duo logra crear nuevos territorios sonoros insospechados, donde la armonía convive con la abstracción de los sonidos.

Passepartout Duo is a musical group comprised by pianist Nicoletta Favari and percussionist Christopher Salvito, who work in the field of experimental music with acoustic percussion instruments, piano and analogue keyboards. They have participated in important festivals and collaborated with artists from Asia and Europe on the occasion of their permanent trips they make.

"Epigrams" was composed during a residency at the AIR Niederösterreich in Krems, Austria, where they worked with the Buchla 100 series modular synthesizer, which is among the oldest Buchla instruments in use. This one was built by Don Buchla in 1967 for the composer Ernst Krenek.

At the beginning of the residency the duo were presented with a composition by Krenek composed for modular synthesizer and two pianos, which motivated Nicoletta and Christopher to work with these instruments, using techniques such as prepared piano, string plucking and harmonics.

The Buchla synthesizer was connected to the piano, being able to play it through metal plates. On “Epigram 1” the abstract sounds of the synthesizer mixed with the choppy notes of the piano, while on “Epigram 2” the melodies flow and spread their wings where the piano brings its high and beautiful notes. In the silent "Epigrama IV" seems to be working with the prepared piano, creating a harmonic space. The last track “Epigram 5” the constant note of the prepared piano, coexists with a wavering pattern that glides over a few notes of the piano.

Passepartout Duo creates a new and unsuspected sound territory where harmony coexists with the abstract sounds.
