die Angel | "Utopien I" | Karlrecords | 2020

die Angel was formed in 1999 by Ilpo Väisänen on electronics and effects (ex Pan Sonic) and Dirk Dresselhaus aka Schneider Tm on electric guitar and effects, who had released their tenth album to date.

"Utopien I" that features renowned guitarist Oren Ambarchi on guitar and effects, contains thick layers of drones interspersed along with noisy guitars that display stinging hums whose electric discharges draw permanent tension in these four tracks which are into the genres of musique concrète, minimalism, post-industrial and noise.

A continuous dialogue is noted between the screeching and compulsive sounds of guitars, alternating with analogue electronics with crackling sounds that seem like lashes.

The opener “Epikouros” has a dark envelope that at times conjure up Nurse With Wound’s atmospheres with its oscillating and submerged sound. “Khormanoupka” that closes this album comes to consolidate this amalgam of expansive experimental sounds, whose tones and pulsations are penetrating and hypnotic.
