Zonal, integrado por Justin K Broadrick, conocido como integrante de Godflesh y sus otros apodos como Jesu y JK Flesh y Kevin Martin por su proyecto The Bug y con el seudónimo de King Midas Sound.
Zonal continúa donde dejó su colaboración anterior, Techno Animal, y combina una obsesión continua y brutal con ritmos, bajos, dub, drones, ruido y riffs.
En octubre pasado Relapse editó su nuevo álbum debut “Wrecked” en el que destaca la colaboración de la poeta lírica y músico residente en Philadelphia Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother.
Zonal estuvo inactivo varios años a la espera que ambos connotados artistas pudieran conciliar sus propios proyectos para sacar un disco contundente, que está hecho para escucharse a un volumen alto, a su vez aplastante y con fuertes dosis de distorsión. Esto se refleja en las declaraciones que hacen ambos en una reciente entrevista en The Wire (edición de noviembre 2019), oportunidad en que Stephen O’Malley comenta que “Soy adicto al volumen y al bajo. Quiero el mismo impacto que estoy intentando inducir en la audiencia que es dejar el planeta con sonido”. Por su parte, Kevin Martin argumenta que: “La distorsión como herramienta es muy importante: es algo que es para la conciencia de los seres humanos, de alguna manera incorrecto pero bello porque está mostrando también decadencia en tiempo real”.
Además de la contundencia musical con las murallas de drones y ruido de “No Investigation ft. Moor Mother”, Camae Ayewa denuncia como MC en “Catalyst”, el odio a los negros y a las mujeres y lo podrido que está el sistema que reclama en “System Error ft. Moor Mother”.
El discurso y la propuesta musical es consistente, aplastante y por cierto expresivo de un lenguaje que no tiene tapujos.

Zonal continues where they left their previous collaboration, Techno Animal, and combines a continuous and brutal obsession with rhythms, bass, dub, drones, noise and riffs.
Last October Relapse released the new debut album "Wrecked" which includes the outstanding collaboration of lyric poet and musician Camae Ayewa, aka Moor Mother.
Zonal was inactive for several years, hoping that both renowned artists could reconcile their own projects to release a strong album, which is made to be heard at a high volume, at the same time overwhelming and with a strong dose of distortion. This is reflected in the statements made by both in a recent interview in The Wire (November 2019 edition), an opportunity in which Stephen O'Malley comments that “I’m addicted to volume and bass. I want the same impact that I’m trying to induce in the audience which is to leave the planet with sound.” For his part, Kevin Martin argues that: "Distortion as a tool is so important: it’s something that is to the human consciousness somehow incorrect but beautiful because it’s showing decay in real time somehow."
In addition to the musical forcefulness with the walls of drones and noise of “No Investigation ft. Moor Mother”, Camae Ayewa denounces as MC on “Catalyst” the hatred of blacks and women and how rotten the system is that claims on “System Error ft. Moor Mother."
The speech and the musical proposal is consistent, overwhelming and certainly expressive of a free language.
