En Old Castle se reunieron tres renombrados artistas de la música experimental. Robin Storey ex Zoviet France y conocido por su prolífico seudónimo como Rapoon, Robert Pepper con su alias Pas Musique y director del sello de Brooklyn Alrealon Musique y Shaun Sandor con sus proyectos Promute y Bicameral Mind. Y en esta alianza confluyen los estilos drone, experimental psicodelia y la electro acústica, entre otros estilos. Los tres se conocieron en 2011 cuando actuaron en Brooklyn en el Cafe Orwell y desde entonces han seguido colaborando en diferentes proyectos como Ultramail Productions, Alrealon Musique, Zoharum. Old Castle despliega sonidos hipnóticos y penetrantes hasta ritmos punzantes y ácidos. And in this alliance drone, experimental psychedelia and electro acoustic converge, among other styles. The three met in 2011 when they performed in Brooklyn at Cafe Orwell and since then they have continued to collaborate on different projects as duos such as Ultramail Productions, Alrealon Musique, Zoharum. Old Castle unfold from hypnotic and penetrating sounds to sharp and acid rhythms. ¿Cuál o cuáles fueron las fuentes de inspiración para componer "Old Castle"? "Creo que la inspiración para Old Castle fue simplemente compartir entre nosotros nuestras técnicas y enfoques artísticos. Nos encanta trabajar juntos y desarrollar temas. Creo que es emocionante tener a tres músicos muy diferentes que se unan y compartan sus ideas artísticas y eso es realmente inspirador para seguir haciendo más música". ¿Cómo fue la forma en que funcionó este álbum? Por ejemplo, ¿se enviaron archivos entre sí y cada uno los trabajó y luego enviaron estos archivos ya trabajados hasta que se completó la mezcla? "Todos comenzamos con la grabación de pistas y luego rotaríamos las pistas de una en una. De esta manera, tendríamos tres diferentes enfoques con tres ideas diferentes. Luego elegimos qué pista se incluiría en el disco y de esta manera le daríamos una línea de tiempo más coherente". En tu opinión, ¿cuáles fueron las contribuciones que cada uno hizo a este álbum, considerando que vienes de diferentes orígenes? "Bueno, obviamente Robin tiene un sonido muy único que trae las vibras de Rapoon. Pero no dejes que te engañe. A veces puede traer una guitarra con sonido metal. En el próximo lanzamiento podría haber más de eso. Shaun también trae un sonido único con sus instrumentos caseros. Shaun construye todo tipo de cosas extrañas de tipo alienígena. Son obras de arte. Aunque le gustan principalmente los instrumentos de cuerda. Yo estoy un poco en todos los ámbitos, pero en este lanzamiento agregué algunas secuencias digitales. Recientemente volví a mis raíces de secuenciación. Ese enfoque lo extraño desde mi antigua banda Magic Zorillo". ¿Qué papel juega la improvisación en "Old Castle"? "Old Castle es un 50 por ciento improvisación y un 50 por ciento de ideas fijas. ¿Cuáles serían los próximos pasos para Old Castle? "Actualmente estamos trabajando en un nuevo álbum y esperamos ir a otra gira 2020 el próximo año. También tenemos planes para un posible festival. Estamos abiertos a ideas. Por favor contáctennos". Guillermo Escudero Diciembre 2019		Which were the sources of inspiration to compose "Old Castle"? "I think the inspiration for Old Castle was simply to share with each other our artistic techniques and approaches. We love working with each other and developing themes. I think it’s exciting to have three very different musicians to come together and share their artistic ideas and that’s truly inspiring to keep making more music." How was the way this album was worked? For example, you sent each other files and each one worked them and then you sent these files already worked until the mix was completed? "We all started with recording tracks and then we would rotate the tracks from one to the other. This way three different approaches gave three different ideas. Then we picked and chose which track goes where in the release giving a more cohesive timeline." In your opinion which were the contributions that each one made to this album, considering that you come from different backgrounds? "Well, obviously Robin has a very unique sound bringing in the Rapoon vibe. But don’t let him fool you. He may at times bring in a metal sounding guitar. Next release there may be more of that. Shaun also brings in a unique sound with his homemade instruments. Shaun build all sorts of cool looking alien type things. They are works of art. He mainly likes string instruments though. I am a bit across the board but in this release, I added some digital sequences. I have recently got back to my roots of sequencing. That approach for me has been missed since my old band Magic Zorillo." What role does improvisation play in "Old Castle? "Old Castle is about 50 percent improvising and 50 percent fixed ideas. What would be the next steps for Old Castle? "We are currently working on a new album and hopefully go on another 2020 tour next year. We also have a possible festival plans lined up.
