Quizás hay aquí dos
historias que contar. La primera – que ocurrió hace varios meses - es que el sello de Graham Lambkin, KYE
Records lamentablemente dejó de existir, con publicaciones de álbumes seminales
de artistas como el propio Lambkin (léase “Amateur Doubles”), Matt Krefting, Call Back The Giants y por
cierto “Cofradía Náutica”, editado
en septiembre de 2016, el primer LP de esta banda de Santiago de Chile.
Glorias Navales originalmente se forma a
finales de 2013 como un trío compuesto por Christian
Bartlau y Tomás Salvatierra en guitarras acústicas y Álvaro Daguer en caja
(hecha a mano). En 2015, editan “Carta a Maureen Tucker” en el
sello que edita en cassette, Traición 1973 Records.
En abril de 2016 se van
de gira a Europa y presentan su disco “Cofradía
Náutica”, ocasión en que se unen al grupo, Ivan
Daguer (hermano de Álvaro) en Ukulele y José Luis Sepulveda, en Rabel, convirtiéndose
en un quinteto.
La segunda parte de esta historia
es que en octubre A Wave Press edita su segundo LP “Glorias Navales Presenta El
Blues de Istvan”, el que también los llevará este mes de gira por el Reino
Unido que incluirá una segunda presentación en el mítico Cafe Oto.
Este nuevo álbum consiste
en cinco canciones que abre con “Entrando al Espejo” que evoca a “Cofradía Náutica”, con su ritmo cancino y suaves acordes que tejen bellas
y nostálgicas melodías. Sin embargo, frente a este escenario casi bucólico,
emerge Istvan, un científico amigo del grupo que pronostica el fin del
mundo por la deforestación, calentamiento global y desechos nucleares.
En “El Blues de Istvan” el
diálogo entre el Rabel y el rasgueo de las guitarras dejan entrever el acceso a
un mundo armónico, cuando las guitarras comienzan a crear líneas melódicas que van
in crescendo y que sobrecogen por su simpleza, mientras el bombo va marcando el
ritmo como si tratara de una ceremonia religiosa. Con “Enero” se vuelve a una
cierta calma, en el que surgen pequeños sonidos a través del golpeteo suave y
la frotación sobre las cuerdas del Rabel. Este es la antesala al trance hipnótico
al que se nos invita con su último tema “Entrando al Espejo (Vuelta)”, que
deslumbra por su delicada armonía y fuerza de cómo entran las guitarras y el Rabel
como antípoda se rebela ante tanta belleza, en tanto el bombo no cesa en su
incansable talante percusivo.
Con este disco Glorias Navales
traza un camino propicio para seguir desplegando toda su creatividad.

Maybe
there are two stories to tell here. The first one - which happened several
months ago - is that Graham Lambkin’s KYE Records label unfortunately ceased to
exist, with publications of seminal albums by artists such as Lambkin himself ("Amateur
Doubles"), Matt Krefting, Call Back The Giants and "Cofradía
Náutica" in fact which was released in September 2016, the first LP of the
band from Santiago de Chile.
Glorias
Navales was originally formed at the end of 2013 as a trio comprised of Christian
Bartlau and Tomás Salvatierra on acoustic guitars, and Álvaro Daguer in handmade
bombo chino (drum). In 2015, they released "Carta a Maureen Tucker" on
Traición 1973 Records cassette imprint.
In
April 2016 they toured Europe and present their "Cofradía Náutica"
album, when the group was joined by Ivan Daguer (Alvaro’s brother) on Ukulele
and José Luis Sepulveda, on Rabel, turning into a five piece.
The
second part of this story is that in October A Wave Press imprint published their
second LP "Glorias Navales Presenta El Blues de Istvan", which with will
also take them this month on tour to the UK, that will include a second concert
at the legendary Cafe Oto in London.
This
new album consists of five songs that opens with "Entrando al Espejo"
that evokes "Cofradía Náutica" with its slow rhythm and soft chords
that weave beautiful and nostalgic melodies. However, against this almost
bucolic scenario, emerges Istvan, a scientist friend of the band who predicts
the end of the world by deforestation, global warming and nuclear waste.
On
"El Blues de Istvan" the dialogue between the Rabel and the guitar strumming
give access to a harmonious world, when the guitars start to create melodic
lines that go in crescendo and that overwhelm for their simplicity, while the
bass drum mark the rhythm as if it were a religious ceremony. With "Enero"
returns to a certain calm, in which small sounds emerge with the soft tapping
and rubbing over the Rabel's strings, which are the prelude to the hypnotic
trance to which we are invited with their last song “Entrando al Espejo
(Vuelta)”, which dazzles by its delicate harmony and strength of how the
guitars and the Rabel come in as antipodes rebels against such beauty, while
the bass drum does not cease in its tireless percussive mood.
With
this album Glorias Navales traces a suitable path to continue deploying all its
creativity.
