ZÖJ es un dúo compuesto por la iraní Gelareh Pour y el australiano Brian O'Dwyer afincados en Australia que realizan música experimental en la que incorporan música étnica del Asia Occidental. Están activos desde 2016, pero han trabajado juntos en otros proyectos desde 2012.

Gelareh Pour  canta y toca Kamancheh (instrumento de cuerda frotada iraní) y Brian O'Dwyer la batería junto a una variada percusión. 

Gelareh Pour estudia e interpreta música desde muy temprana edad. Es maestra del Kamancheh y ha ganado varios premios por su trabajo. 

Gelareh y Brian recibieron una nominación finalista a la Excelencia en música experimental en los Art Music Awards - APRA AMCOS y Australian Music Center en 2020, y una nominación finalista a ZÖJ por Interpretación del año en jazz/música improvisada en 2022.

“Fil O Fenjoon” fue una presentación en vivo en el salón Primrose Potter en el centro recital de Melbourne.

En la apertura “I Take Pictures of Fire” Galareh frota la cuerdas del Kamancheh creando un aura envolvente que se encumbra en lo alto con la bella voz de Gelareh, cuyo clamor profundo se refuerza en “My Empty Boat (Part 3)”. En “Hearts of Stone” continua el diálogo entre el Kamancheh y la percusión libre con tambores, bombo y platillos de Brian junto a unas líneas sintetizadas ambientales. “Hymn for Apollo” es un largo canto lacónico que planea por el espacio y se profundiza en “Winter for Ghazal” junto al estribillo en coro y el canto desgarrador de Galareh, mientras en “Study of a Bull” – que cierra el álbum - las zigzagueantes del Kamancheh se complementan con los vertiginosos golpes de la batería.

En “Fil O Fenjoon” Gelareh y Brian muestran su habilidad como músicos, elaborando ocho canciones que crean una atmósfera inquietante, de ritmo pausado, con un talante solemne y ceremonioso.

ZÖJ is a duo composed of the Iranian Gelareh Pour and Australian Brian O'Dwyer, both based in Australia who make experimental music that incorporates ethnic music from Western Asia. They have been active since 2016 but have worked together on other projects since 2012.

Gelareh Pour sings and plays Kamancheh (Iranian bowed string instrument) and Brian O'Dwyer plays drums along with various percussion.

Gelareh Pour studies and performs music from a very early age. She is a Kamancheh Master and has won several awards for her work.

Gelareh and Brian received a finalist nomination for Excellence in Experimental Music at the Art Music Awards - APRA AMCOS and Australian Music Center in 2020, and a ZÖJ finalist nomination for Jazz/Improvised Music Performance of the Year in 2022.

In the opener “I Take Pictures of Fire” Galareh rubs the strings of the Kamancheh creating an enveloping aura that rises above with her mesmerizing voice, whose deep cry is reinforced in “My Empty Boat (Part 3)”. “Hearts of Stone” unfurls a dialogue between Gelareh’s Kamancheh and Brian's off-kilter percussion - including snare drum, bass drum and cymbals -, continues alongside some ambient synthesized lines. “Hymn for Apollo” is a long laconic song that hovers into space which deepens in “Winter for Ghazal” along with the chorus refrain and Galareh's heartbreaking song, while in “Study of a Bull” – which closes the album – the Kamancheh’s zigzagging chords complemented by the dizzying beats of the drums.

In “Fil O Fenjoon” Gelareh and Brian show their skill as musicians, creating eight songs of disquieting atmospheres, with a slow pace, with a solemn and ceremonious mood.
