Valance Drakes | "Hate Devours Its Host" | Amek Collective | 2023

Valance Drakes | "Hate Devours Its Host" | Amek Collective | 2023

Septiembre 2023

Valance Drakes is an electronic music artist from West London who incorporates field recordings, vinyl samples and software glitches. He has eight albums and several EPs published to his credit.

"Hate Devours Its Host", recently released on September 29 by the Bulgarian Amek Collective label, contains eight songs enveloped in ambient mattresses.

From its opening with "For The Struggle Which Is Universal and Daily" disturbing atmospheres unfold, along with twisted synthetic sounds that feel organic and reveal a captivating abstraction through glitches. On “Seeing Is Different Than Being Told” the pulsating beats with difficulty unfold to make their way before such a maelstrom of noises that also becomes evident on “For The Dark Is One But Its Shapes Are Many”, which displays a magnificent celestial chorus. On “Heaven's Vengeance Is Slow But Sure” the staccato beat is the rhythmic base amidst heavenly ambient lines which continue flowing on “Whosoever Is Delighted In Solitude”.

“The Heart Must Pause To Breathe” closes an album that combines, on the one hand, tortuous and sinuous noise, along with tough abstract beats and, on the other hand, ambience of pure bliss.
