MK/CT está formado por Chris Dreier y Tim Löhde. Este último es un artista y músico afincado en Alemania que trabaja con instalaciones sonoras, objetos, vídeos e imágenes, en tanto Chris Dreier es un compositor, intérprete y artista que reside en Berlín y uno de los primeros miembros de la banda de post-punk de Berlín occidental Die Tödliche Doris (1980 a 1987).

Este álbum tiene su origen en una grabación que realizó Dreier en el lago Spree que es el principal río de Berlín y que inusualmente hace algunos años atrás se congeló. El sonido de las resquebrajaduras y desprendimientos por los cambios de temperatura fueron grabados y enviados a Tim Löhde, quien editó y procesó el material sonoro, transformando el mismo después de varias idas y venidas entre ellos. Así se agregan líneas sintetizadores, piano y grabaciones de campo. Con este trabajo colaborativo nace el dúo MK/CT. 

Abre este álbum “Eisbrecher” en el que se pueden escuchar los ruidos de las fisuras producidas en el hielo y el desplazamiento de la masa de agua. Luego emergen motivos de piano y sinuosas líneas sintetizadas. En “Shieldfields” las delicadas notas de piano se entremezclan con una campanada, algarabía urbana y texturas electrónicas. “Tunnel” es una canción inquietante donde los timbres vacilantes de objetos metálicos son el telón de fondo para un piano que se desplaza elegantemente.

En “Matsudo” las texturas de sintetizador aéreo se transforman en drones flotantes, en tanto que “Insektenhotel” muestra grabaciones de ruidos amorfos e indefinidos. Cierra el álbum “Ruminating” con lo que parecen ser señales de receptores de radio de onda corta, junto a los motivos de piano que estremecen por su fina delicadeza. 

MK/CT manipula hábilmente sonidos intrincados que se fusionan con la calidez envolvente de la parsimonia del piano.

MK/CT (Chris Dreier & Tim Löhde)MK/CT is made up of Chris Dreier and Tim Löhde. The latter is a Germany-based artist and musician who works with sound installations, objects, videos and images, while Chris Dreier is a Berlin-based composer, performer and artist and one of the first members of the post-punk band from West Berlin, Die Tödliche Doris (1980 to 1987).

The album has its origins in a recording that Dreier made on the river Spree, which is the main one in Berlin which unusually got frozen a few years ago. The sound of cracks and detachments due to temperature changes were recorded and sent to Tim Löhde. They edited and processed the sound material, transforming it after several back and forth between them. They added synthesizer lines, piano and field recordings. With this collaborative work the MK/CT duo was born.

The opener “Eisbrecher” unfurls the crack noises produced in the ice and the movement of the water mass. Then piano motifs and sinuous synthesized lines emerge.  On “Shieldfields” the delicate piano notes intermingle with a chime, urban noises and electronic textures. “Tunnel” is a haunting song where the wavering rings of metallic objects are the backdrop for an elegant drifting piano. 

On “Matsudo” airy synth textures transform into hovering drones, while “Insektenhotel” features recordings of amorphous, indefinite noises. The album close with signals from shortwave radio receivers on “Ruminating”, along with piano motifs that thrill with their fine delicacy.

MK/CT deftly manipulate intricate sound that merge into the enveloping warmth's of the piano's parsimony.
