Marc Richter es un músico de Hamburgo que tiene una trayectoria de veinte años y que se le conoce bajo el alias de Black To Comm, con el que ha publicado al menos doce álbumes. Sus discos han sido publicados por Thrill Jockey, Type Recordings y en su propio sello Dekorder. Compone bandas sonoras para películas y ha creado instalaciones acusmáticas multicanal para instituciones como INA GRM (Institut National Audiovisuel, Groupe de Recherches Musicales) en París y ZKM en Karlsruhe, Alemania. También graba bajo los seudónimos de Jemh Circs y Mouchoir Étanche para el sello Cellule 75. En octubre como Black To Comm lanzará el álbum “At Zeenath Parallel Heavens”.

La música de Richter contiene una amplia paleta de instrumentos acústicos: pianos, flautas, percusión de madera, viola, tablas, autoarpa, grabaciones de campo, electrónica y sampling, creando así paisajes sonoros intrigantes enraizados en world music, música litúrgica y medieval, krautrock y la propuesta sonora de artistas experimentales que en los años 80 también hicieron una combinación musical similar.

En 2009, el sello Type lanzó el álbum "Alphabet 1968" como Black To Comm. Desde que comenzó a trabajar con nuevo material sonoro, se convertiría en la continuación de “Alphabet 1968”, pero por alguna razón no prosperó, plasmándose en “Coh Bâle”.

Este nuevo disco consiste en 18 tracks que en su mayoría no superan los tres minutos, desplegando así un amplio abanico de sonidos. Desde el ambient, la música étnica, la electroacústica, la música concreta y la música experimental. Richter propone una transformación y reconversión de sonidos a través del sampling, explorando la electrónica ambiental en los tracks “Coh Bâle”, “Gesänge I”, “Der Schlaf dieser Zeit”, “Hinten das Pferd” y “Phantombildstörung”. La música tradicional galesa en “Geburt der Pferde” y “Iechyd o Gylch”; la manipulación abstracta en “Gesänge II” y “Geisterfahrer”; evocar la música religiosa en “Gesänge III” y “Umweltmusik”, este último incluye un fino de punteo a las cuerdas. El trabajo electroacústico en “Donnerstag ohne Meer” y “Zweitausendzweiundzwanzig”. Así como los complejos sonidos sampleados en “Europamusik”, “Gesänge IIII” y “Selbstportrait”.

La compleja obra musical de Marc Richter abre una paleta sonora de sorprendentes matices y texturas que proviene de una investigación que trasciende las fronteras.

Marc Richter is a musician from Hamburg that has a twenty-year career and known under the alias Black To Comm, releasing at least twelve albums. His records have been published by Thrill Jockey, Type Recordings and on his own Dekorder label. He composes film scores and has created multi-channel acousmatic installations for institutions such as INA GRM (Institut National Audiovisuel, Groupe de Recherches Musicales) in Paris and ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany. He also works under the monikers Jemh Circs and Mouchoir Étanche for the Cellule 75 label. In October 2023 Black To Comm will release the “At Zeenath Parallel Heavens” album.

Richter's music contains a wide palette of acoustic instruments: pianos, flutes, wooden percussion, viola, tablas, autoharp, field recordings, electronics, and sampling, thereby creating intriguing soundscapes rooted in world music, liturgical and medieval music, Krautrock and in the proposal sound by experimental artists who in the '80s also made a similar musical combination.

The electroacoustic work on “Donnerstag ohne Meer” and “Zweitausendzweiundzwanzig”. As well as the complex sounds sampled on “Europamusik”, “Gesänge IIII” and “Selbstportrait”.

Marc Richter's complex musical work opens a sound palette of amazing nuances and textures that stems from research that transcends the boundaries.
