Yazan Zyadat aka Toumba es productor, DJ, diseñador de sonido, curador y residente en MNFA, un club y espacio artístico en Amman, Jordania.

“Janoob” (جنوب) significa “El Sur” en árabe y es el área de Jordania donde residen los beduinos y de donde provino la mayor parte de la influencia musical de este EP. Su música con sus poli-ritmos y flautas, además de una voz cantante y un coro que responde a este cantante se convierte en un ritmo hipnótico. Esto último es lo que Toumba con una combinación de ritmos sincopados y ruidos que tanto se comprimen como se expanden. “Janoob” que abre este disco, el bombo se acompaña de irregulares beats pegadizos, en tanto que en “Qasf” el ritmo fluye con más soltura junto a una variada percusión. En “Eqla3” los sonidos sintéticos sinuosos y arremolinados van junto a un persistente beat que se vuelve hiperkinético en “Rashash”. “Back of the Hand” tiene una línea ambiental y un beat más sosegado que alterna con sonidos retorcidos. En “Bouquet of Kicks” que cierra este disco, tiene influencias del hip-hop, aunque los BPM son más acelerados. 

Este EP muestra a un Yazan Zyadat que explora nuevos sonidos a través de un trabajo prolijo en el diseño sonoro, manteniendo el carácter hipnótico de la música tradicional de su país.

Yazan Zyadat aka Toumba is a producer, DJ, sound designer, curator, and resident at MNFA, a club and arts space in Amman, Jordan.

“Janoob” (جنوب) means “The South” in Arabic and is the area of Jordan where the Bedouins reside and where most of the musical influence on this EP came from. Zyadat’s music unfurls polyrhythms and flutes, plus a singing voice and a chorus that responds to this singer, transforming it into a hypnotic rhythm. The latter is what Toumba does with a combination of syncopated rhythms and compress and expanding noises. In the opener “Janoob” the bass drum is accompanied by irregular catchy beats, while on "Qasf" the rhythm flows more easily along with a varied percussion. On “Eqla3” sinuous, swirling synthetic sounds go hand in hand with a persistent beat that turns on hyperkinetic on “Rashash”. “Back of the Hand” has an ambient line and a calmer beat that alternates with twisted sounds. On "Bouquet of Kicks" that closes this album, it has hip-hop influence although with a faster BPM.

This EP shows a Yazan Zyadat who explores new sounds through a meticulous work on sound design, maintaining the hypnotic character of his country's traditional music.
