Infinite River | "Prequel" | Birdman Records | 2023

Infinite River | "Prequel" | Birdman Records | 2023

Three years ago, during the Pandemic, the art-rock trio Gretchen Davidson (Slumber Party, Terror at the Opera, Universal Indians), Warren Defever (ESP Beetles, His Name is Alive), as special guest drummer Steve Nistor (Sparks, Ural Thomas, Seedsmen to the World) and Joey Mazzola (Detroit Cobras, Sponge, Sugarcoats), to produce “Prequel”, an album with subtle inflections to post-rock, dream pop and drone On this album, Joey Mazzola plays the guitar; Gretchen Davidson on guitar; Warren Defever, on harmonium and tanpura and, Steve Nistor on drums and percussion.

On “Prequel” the development of songs that travel unexpected paths prevails, such as “Track 1” that exudes dreamlike pop that evokes the Chicago band Zelienople. Improvisation plays a preponderant role in the creation of atmospheres, as is the case of "Track 3", where the sliding and laconic guitar and the soft chords of Davidson and Mazzola have characteristics of a soundtrack, while the Oriental air on “Track 4” comes from Defever's Indian tanpura turning into a dreamy ambient tapestry.

Infinite River bets on evoking soundscapes that denote nostalgia that feels poignant and certainly safe, to get caught up in them.
