Kiln se formó en 1993 como un trío formado por Kevin Hayes, Kirk Marrison y Clark Rehberg III quienes han lanzado 14 discos entre álbumes, singles y compilados. La música del trío consiste en ritmos y melodías sincopados, suaves acordes de guitarra, texturas electrónicas tan complejas como etéreas e inflexiones al groove jazzístico. Esto último obedece a la primera formación que tuvieron con el nombre de Fibreforms, en la que experimentaron con cintas y sonidos encontrados.

Kiln es una banda que combina post-rock, ambient y electrónica noventera, al estilo de Zelienople, Pan American, Seefeel, Slowdive y Dif Juz. Entre los ritmos cadenciosos que galopan entre las nubes y las atmósferas ambientales transita este disco que originalmente fue editado por el sello Thalassa en 1998 y una versión revisada y autoeditada del álbum en 2007 por el grupo se llamó “Holo [re/lux]”, la que fue reeditada por el sello alemán Keplar. 

El álbum abre con “Breezeplate” que despliega un ritmo envolvente que logra permanecer como un trance. “Squarewave Colorwheel” se mueve sigiloso a través de pulsos palpitantes repetitivos junto a unas viñetas abstractas. La marca registrada de Kiln son los ritmos que se desplazan y que cautivan por su vaivén incesante y que se pueden apreciar en “Toypieceplate”, “Dodecatheon”, “Kekker” (con influencias dub) y “Billionwatt”. O como aquellas atmósferas más brumosas y densas de “Sunsculpture One“, “Soundsculpture Two”, “Gauss”, como el ambient de “Continentsunderclouds” y el pop onírico de “Sienna”.

“Holo” sigue absolutamente vigente mostrando ricas texturas y ambientes inmersivos para sumergirse y quedarse allí escuchando una música cautivadora.

The trio's music consists of syncopated rhythms and melodies, smooth guitar chords, complex yet ethereal electronic textures, and jazzy groove inflections. The latter is due to the first formation they had under the name of Fibreforms, in which they experimented with tapes and found sounds.

Kiln is a band that combines post-rock, ambient and '90s electronica, in the vein of Zelienople, Pan American, Seefeel, Slowdive and Dif Juz, among others. Between the rhythmic rhythms that gallop between the clouds and the ambient atmospheres this album transits, which was originally released by the Thalassa label in 1998 and a revised and self-released version of the album that came out in 2007 called “Holo [re/lux]” that was released on the German Keplar imprint. The album opens with "Breezeplate" that displays an enveloping rhythm that manages to remain trance-like. “Squarewave Colorwheel” moves stealthily through repetitive throbbing pulsing alongside abstract vignettes. Kiln's trademark is moving rhythms that captivate with their incessant swaying and can be listen on “Toypieceplate”, “Dodecatheon”, “Kekker” (with dub influences) and “Billionwatt”. Or like those mistier and denser atmospheres on “Sunsculpture One”, “Soundsculpture Two”, “Gauss”, like the ambient of “Continentsunderclouds” and the dreamlike pop of “Sienna”. “Holo” is still absolutely in force showing rich textures and immersive environments to immerse and stay there listening to captivating music.
