Johanna Sandels es una escultora y artista sonora sueca que trabaja con sonido, arte 2D y 3D e instalaciones. Utiliza grabaciones de campo, así como utiliza cinta magnética en sus esculturas. Su arte ella lo describe como: “traducir sus ideas escultóricas y sus texturas físicas en términos de texturas sonoras relativas”. Sandels cofundó el colectivo F4entropy y Konst Kollektivet Kontakt. Hoy trabaja entre Estocolmo, Londres y Tours, Francia.

“Väsen” es el primer disco de arte sonoro que se le publica a la artista y que consiste en cinco piezas. En “Prélude” - que abre este álbum – es un drone que comienza suavemente con un silbido atmosférico. "Stugubråt" también tiene un drone en el trasfondo, algo de estática, glitches y ruido que Sandels controla bajando y subiendo el volumen. "Isgång" comienza en completo silencio, asomando luego un sonido de rango dinámico alto que bordea la distorsión. En "Vulkanisk Promenad" aparecen las primeras voces esporádicas, el ruido de alguien caminando y un drone oscuro. "Våg" que cierra este álbum, muestra ruidos profundos que se mantienen como telón de fondo. Con este marco sonoro me imagino las esculturas de fierro y acero en movimiento, girando y adoptando distintas figuras.

Johanna Sandels is a Swedish sculptor and sound artist who works with sound, 2D and 3D art, and installations. She uses field recordings, as well as magnetic tape on her sculptures. Her art she describes her process “as translating her sculptural ideas and their physical textures into relative sonic textures.” 

Sandels co-founded the collective F4entropy and Konst Kollektivet Kontakt. Today she works between Stockholm, London and Tours, France.

“Väsen” is the first sound art album published by the artist and consists of five pieces. On “Prélude” - which opens this album - it's a drone that begins softly with an atmospheric whoosh. "Stugubråt" also has a drone in the background, some static, glitches and noise that Sandels controls by turning the volume up and down. "Isgång" starts off in complete silence, then creeps into a high dynamic range sound that borders on distortion. In "Vulkanisk Promenad" the first sporadic voices appear, the noise of someone walking and a dark drone.

Rounding off the album, "Våg" shows deep noises that are kept as a background. With this sound framework I imagine the iron and steel sculptures moving turning and adopting different shapes.
