Lotus Eater | “Plasma” | Stroboscopic Artefacts | 2022

Lotus Eater | “Plasma” | Stroboscopic Artefacts | 2022

Lotus Eater was formed in 2017 by Luca Mortellaro (Lucy) and Seth Horvitz (Rrose) who have more than 20 years of musical career. Horvitz has worked under the alias of Suite K, Sutekh and his/her latest moniker is Rrose. Like Sutekh has released several albums and singles since 2000. He/She has collaborated with various renown artists such as Martin Scorcese, Harmony Korine, Alexander McQueen, Charlemagne Palestine, Bob Ostertag, Silent Servant and Sandwell District.

Lucy is a Berlin-based Italian DJ and producer who produces psychedelic music and performs ritual practices, such as he/her acclaimed Sound Bath Meditations involving traditional instruments such as gongs and bells. He/She is also the founder of the Stroboscopic Artefacts label in 2009, where he has released several albums of his/her own and of other artists. He/She has collaborated with Speedy J, Ben Klock, and Silent Servant.

"Plasma" is the second album by Lotus Eater on Stroboscopic Artefacts after "Desatura" (2018), made up of nine pieces in which rhythmic pulsations converge with nods to minimalist techno and micro-textures, through a neat work with the software design that insinuate a dark ambience. It appears to me when listening to this album that the duo influences with the work of Plastikman, especially with his album "Consumed" (NovaMute, 1998). The duo deploys the creation of disturbing environments as the fundamental engine of their proposal, which translates into a penetrating sound that develops stealthily and tends to hold back.

Lucy and Rrose carry out a craftsmanship with each track, creating their own personality and weaving micro-textures that shape the sound space they are creating.
