Este es la primer registro de audio en formato vinilo, bajo el título de "Acción Rizoma" (Tsonami Records, 2022), de la artista sonora y visual, Bárbara González (Santiago de Chile), quien es licenciada en la Universidad de Chile entre 2000 y 2004. En 2007, se tituló de pintora con distinción máxima, desarrollando un trabajo de tesis que sería base para unos de los proyectos que desarrollaría hasta el día de hoy: Acción Rizoma.
Su trabajo se da en el contexto de una performance, en la que utiliza tecnologías análogas y digitales como platillos de distintos tamaños, tambor, radio-cassette, cd-player, tornamesas, teclado, dispositivos electrónicos, cajas acústicas y otros objetos. Acción Rizoma es una serie numerada en la que el cuerpo que juega un rol activo en instalaciones espaciales, lumínicas y sonoras. Se establece una conexión sonora-visual-corporal. "Así cada acción se articula a partir de vinculaciones entre las cualidades materiales del espacio y los objetos-instrumentos que González resignifica performativamente", según señala la gacetilla de prensa.
Como reza la descripción biológica del rizona; es un tallo subterráneo que crece indefinidamente, El proyecto en curso Acción Rizoma ya lleva más de 80 acciones de arte que ha desplegado nuestra protagonista a lo largo de los últimos 16 años.
En el track “Vinilo” que abre este LP se percibe un silencio inaugural de ruidos sucios y chasquidos que comienzan a replicarse mecánicamente. Le sigue "Metrónomo 40" son pulsaciones que se van alternando entre sí, sin que tengan un punto de coincidencia, mientras intervienen ruidos sintetizados y objetos modificados electrónicamente. En “Platillo” se escucha una caja musical que por momentos desafina porque aparentemente está estropeada. “Zócalo” registra ruidos guturales que hacen eco en un túnel o similar, produciéndose cierto dramatismo a través de algunos de gritos. “Piano”, en medio del silencio, algunas de las clavijas de la caja musical comienzan a rodar para lo que podría ser una canción de cuna. Bárbara comienza luego a friccionar las cuerdas de un piano, produciendo un sonido envolvente que amplifica la caja de resonancia. Las texturas corrosivas de las cuerdas son un tapiz sonoro potente e inspirador. En “SK-5” continúa sonando el engranaje de la caja musical que rueda produciendo algunas melodías ingenuas pero especialmente cálidas. “Bordona” es la pista de cierre de este disco en la que se escucha - a través de micrófonos de contacto -, el ruido de algún objeto rugoso que roza la caja de un tambor, emitiendo alguna interferencia de radio, para finalizar con la grabación de una voz que dice “vamos a impulsar un botón”.
Bárbara González juega con una amalgama de dispositivos y objetos que cobran vida en un proceso vivo, en movimiento, donde el silencio y la dimensión espacial son el telón de fondo que se alterna con el ruido. La elección de las texturas en "Acción Rizoma" sugieren un carácter íntimo, sutil y también tosco y abrasivo de la propuesta sonora de esta destacada artista sonora chilena.

This is the first audio record in vinyl format, under the title of "Acción Rizoma" (Tsonami Records, 2022), by the sound and visual artist, Bárbara González (b. Santiago de Chile), who graduated from the University of Chile between 2000 and 2004. In 2007, she graduated as a painter with maximum distinction, developing a thesis work that would be the basis for one of the projects she would develop to this day: Acción Rizoma.
Her work takes place in the context of a performance, in which she uses analog and digital technologies such as cymbals of different sizes, drum, radio-cassette, cd-player, turntables, keyboard, electronic devices, loudspeakers and other objects. Acción Rizoma is a numbered series in which the body plays an active role in space, light and sound installations. A sound-visual-body connection unfolds. "Thus, each action is articulated from connections between the material qualities of the space and the objects-instruments that González performatively redefines," according to the press release.
As the biological description of the rizona says; it is an underground stem that grows indefinitely. The ongoing project Acción Rizoma already includes more than 80 art actions that our protagonist has displayed over the last 16 years.
In the track “Vinilo” that opens this LP, an inaugural silence alongwith dirty noises and clicks that begin to replicate mechanically is perceived. Followed by "Metronome 40", pulses alternate with each other, without a point of coincidence, while synthesized noises and electronically modified objects intervene. In “Platillo” there is a musical box out of tune at times because it is apparently broken. “Zócalo” registers guttural noises that make echoes in a tunnel or similar, producing a certain drama through some of the screams. “Piano”, in the middle of the silence, some of the pegs of the musical box begin to roll for what could be a lullaby song. Barbara then begins to rub the strings of a piano, producing an enveloping sound that amplifies the soundboard. The corrosive textures of the strings are a powerful and inspiring sonic tapestry. In “SK-5” the gear of the musical box that she turns continues to sound, producing some naive but especially warm melodies. "Bordona" is the closing track of this album in which you can hear - through contact microphones -, the noise of some rough object that rubs against the box of a drum, emitting some radio interference, to finish with the recording of a voice that says “we are going to press a button”.
Bárbara González plays with an amalgamation of devices and objects that come to life in a living, moving process, where silence and the spatial dimension are the backdrop that alternates with noise. The choice of textures in "Acción Rizoma" suggest an intimate, subtle and also rough and abrasive character of the sound proposal of this outstanding Chilean sound artist.
