Saint Abdullah & Eomac | "Patience of a Traitor" | Other People | 2022

Saint Abdullah & Eomac | "Patience of a Traitor" | Other People | 2022

Ian McDonnell, a.k.a.

At The Opposite Pole Of Architectural Virtue “. El pulso rítmico con flirteos al techno asoma en “In One Corner The Male Relatives. “Tiles Of The Façade” y “Chafing Dish” transcurren con capas de ruidos intermitentes y glitches.

Iranian-Canadian brothers Mohammad and Mehdi, aka Saint Abdullah, are based in New York and produce electronic music released on Purple Tape Pedigree, Cassauna, Psychic Liberation, Important Records and Room40.

Ian McDonnell, a.k.a. Eomac is a composer, producer, DJ and owner of the Eotrax imprint, he has released his works spanning different musical genres on The Trilogy Tapes, Stroboscopic Artefacts, Bedouin Records, Killekill, on his own label and on the renowned Planet Mu with his album ‘Cracks’ (2021).

Saint Abdullah is born out of "a deep frustration with the way the West perceives - and treats - Muslims and the Islamic faith”. They aim to “challenge stereotypes and act as a conduit between unnecessary enemies.” Such a big aim in a world strongly divided between East and West.

According to the brothers, the album 'Patience of a Traitor' is inspired by the Iranian cultural such as "the traditional Persian bath house - its architecture, the role it played in keeping, building community, the bathing rituals - served as our ultimate symbol. Now we drink from one cup, and fill the jar with the other."

Noise, abstract samples through intersecting dialogues, glitches, off-kilter percussion, heartfelt singing, is a dense and terrified sound amalgam that opens this album with “At The Opposite Pole Of Architectural Virtue”. The driven beat with techno flirtations appears in “In One Corner The Male Relatives. 'Tiles Of The Façade' and 'Chafing Dish' are layered with intermittent noise and glitches. “Such Gardens There Are” placidly unfolds into house with its enveloping beat. The distorted recording of a chant is accompanied by soft synthesized notes. 'Bareekullah Picnic' is a commitment to the ambient, together with the experimentation of various sounds, as is also the case with 'In Thrall' that closes this album.

Saint Abdullah & Eomac offer risky electronics through complex sound constructions that defy experimentation.
