Al-Qasar es un colectivo de artistas integrado por Thomas Attar Bellier: saz eléctrico, guitarras, teclados, Jaouad El Garouge: voz, awtar, karkabou, tbila, bendir, claves, caxixi, cencerro, Guillaume Théoden: bajo, sub bajo, Nicolas Derolin: darbuka, daf, bongos, bendir, agitadores, saget y Paul Void: batería. Su música es una combinación de psicodelia, ritmos árabes, psicodelia y música trance del norte de África. Como invitados se incluyen Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) y Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys).

El líder de la banda es oriundo del barrio parisino de Barbès” y el resto de la agrupación proviene de distintos países como Francia, Marruecos, Argelia, Egipto y Estados Unidos. Esta amalgama cultural refleja con una mezcla de árabe electrizante y conectado fuertemente a sus raíces árabes.

Abre el disco "Awtar Al Sharq" en el que Ranaldo con su guitarra con efectos se sostienen como fondo, mientras una guitarra tradicional árabe asoma con sus suaves punteos. Le sigue "Awal" que también presenta a Ranaldo con solapadas distorsiones, mientras las voces y los ritmos árabes despliegan su aire seductor. En “Ya Malak presenta a Jello Biafra recita una traducción del poeta revolucionario egipcio Ahmed Fouad Negm, reafirmando la crítica social y el discurso político de la banda. “Hobek Thawrat” presenta a la activista, oriunda de Sudán y residente en Nueva York, Alsarah, quien canta y grita con fuerza en contra del golpe de estado egipcio. “Barbès Barbès” evoca el barrio en el que la banda se reúne por primera vez. Aquí se destaca a Mehdi Haddab, conocido por introducir el laud como instrumento de rock and roll. Cierra este disco “Mal Wa Jamal” que destaca a la cantante egipcia Hend Elrawy, a quien el grupo conoció en El Cairo, cuyas letras hablan del maltrato hacia las mujeres.

The leader of the band is native of the Parisian neighborhood of Barbès” and the rest of the group comes from different countries such as Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, France and the United States. This cultural amalgamation unfurls a mix of Arabic electrifying grooves and the strongly connection to its Arab roots.

The opener of the album ‘Awtar Al Sharq’ features Lee Ranaldo unfolding his guitar effects textures sustained in the background, while a traditional Arabic guitar appears with its soft plucking. It is followed by ‘Awal’ which also features Ranaldo with sneaky distortions, while the Arabic voices and groove displays its seductive perfume. In ‘Ya Malak’ presents Jello Biafra who recites a translation of Egyptian revolutionary poet, Ahmed Fouad Negm, reaffirming the group's social criticism and political speech. ‘Hobek Thawrat’ features New York-based, Sudan-born singer-activist Alsarah, who sings and shouts loudly against the Egyptian coup. ‘Barbès Barbès’ evokes the neighborhood where the band meets for the first time, featuring Mehdi Haddab, known for introducing the lute as a rock and roll instrument. Rounding off the album with 'Mal Wa Jamal' presents the Egyptian singer Hend Elrawy, whom the group met in Cairo, whose lyrics speak of the mistreatment towards women.
