Para la serie ‘Stills’ se le solicitó a los compositores que crearan una pieza musical de una obra de arte que seleccionaran de la Galería Tate Britain de Londres, con la premisa de que si la obra de arte elegida represente una imagen fija de una escena, ¿cómo sonaría la partitura? Este proyecto entonces une las disciplinas de la música y las bellas artes.

En abril de 2021 se publica el primer lanzamiento de la serie “Still 01” en String and Tins (una compañía afincada en Londres que desarrolla proyectos de diseño de sonido, composición e investigación de música y despliega sus trabajos en los campos de la publicidad, películas, marcas, juegos, entre otros), que convoca a tres compositores ((Jim Stewart, Simon Whiteside y Joe Wilkinson) que se desenvuelven en los subgéneros de la música neoclásica y ambient. La segunda entrega de esta serie “Still 02”, continúa también en la misma vena musical cuyos compositores que participan son Mike Bamford, quien seleccionó la obra de arte “Carnation Lily Lily Rose” de John Singer Sargent; Adam Smyth, eligió la obra Horse Frightened By A Lion’ de George Stubbs; el compositor Kaspar Broyd  escogió la obra “Chatterton” de Henry Wallis y Lawrence Kendrick seleccionó la obra No. 12 de Magda Cordell.

“Carnation Lily Lily Rose” es una bella pintura del impresionismo británico que muestra a dos niñas que están en un jardín recolectando flores o algo parecido. Aquí Mike Bamford despliega bellos acordes de piano acompañado de flauta y chelo que configuran texturas cinemáticas y un carácter romántico. 

En ‘Horse Frightened By A Lion' se aprecia a Adam Smyth cuya música contiene cierto dramatismo que refleja muy bien el encuentro del caballo con el león, entre sobrevivir y morir, mientras una sesión de bronces evoluciona desde los momentos apacibles a otros álgidos y épicos. En “Chatterton”, con la sesión de cuerdas y cuernos, Kaspar Broyd compone una música melancólica que refiere a los últimos momentos de vida del poeta Thomas Chatterton, antes de tomar una decisión fatal. Finaliza esta segunda entrega con el trabajo del compositor Lawrence Kendrick que se inspira en la mujer como un embrión y dadora de vida realizado por la artista húngara-británica Magda Cordell, donde las cuerdas edificantes hacen un tributo a la vida.

‘Still 02’ se siente muy emocionante pues entrega exquisitas piezas musicales que pasan desde el dramatismo al miedo, de la vida a la muerte.

For the 'Stills' series, composers were asked to create a piece of music from an work of art they selected from London's Tate Britain Gallery, on the premise that if the chosen artwork represents a still image of a scene, what would the score sound like? This project thus unites the disciplines of music and fine arts.

In April 2021, the first release of the “Still 01” series is published by String and Tins (a London-based company that develops projects of sound design, composition and music research and displays its work in the fields of advertising, movies, brands, games, among others), which brought together three composers (Jim Stewart, Simon Whiteside and Joe Wilkinson) who work in the subgenres of neoclassical and ambient music. The second installment of this series 'Still 02,' also continues in the same musical vein whose participating composers are Mike Bamford, who selected the artwork 'Carnation Lily Lily Rose' by John Singer Sargent; Adam Smyth chose the art piece ‘Horse Frightened By A Lion' by George Stubbs, whereas composer Kaspar Broyd chose Henry Wallis's painting ‘Chatterton,' and Lawrence Kendrick selected Magda Cordell's work of art ‘No. 12.’

‘Carnation Lily Lily Rose’ is a beautiful British Impressionist painting that shows two girls who are in a garden picking flowers or something similar. Here Mike Bamford displays beautiful piano chords accompanied by flute and cello that configure cinematic textures and a romantic character.

In 'Horse Frightened By A Lion' Adam Smyth's music contains a certain drama that reflects the encounter of a horse with a lion; surviving and dying, while a brass session evolves from peaceful moments to other high and epic ones. In ‘Chatterton’ with the strings and horns session, Kaspar Broyd composes a melancholic music that refers to the last moments of the life of the poet Thomas Chatterton, before making a fatal decision. This second installment ends with the work of composer Lawrence Kendrick who is inspired by the woman as an embryo and life giver painted by Hungarian-British artist Magda Cordell, where the uplifting strings pay tribute to life.

‘Still 02’ feels very poignant as it delivers exquisite musical pieces that go from drama to fear, from life to death.
