“Spirit Exit” o “Salida del Espíritu” es el tercer larga duración de la compositora y música italiana residente en Milán, Caterina Barbieri, que graba en el estudio de su casa durante la cuarentena de 2020. En este trabajo en solitario se encuentra con tres mujeres insignes que fueron fuente de inspiración para este disco: La mística, maestra, escritora y monja española, Santa Teresa de Ávila, la filósofa humanista italiana Rosi Braidotti y la poetisa norteamericana Emily Dickinson. Esto la llevó hacia un viaje interior que se plasma en las formas aladas que alcanzan las líneas de sintetizador y la voz angelical que despliega en este álbum debut para su sello Light Years. 

Estudió síntesis modular en el prestigioso Elektronmusikstudion de Estocolmo, proponiendo sonidos vanguardistas a través de su sintetizador modular personalizado. Su características polifonías y poliritmos se encuentran desde la apertura con “At Your Gamut” con sus melodías que parecen espirales que revolotean por todo el espacio. En “Transfixed” emerge su voz que clama por salir de las profundidades e imponer su presencia frente a las épicas notas sintéticas. Los tracks ”Canticle of Cryo” y “Broken Melody” tienen en común la voz y los coros apremiantes y el zigzagueo trepidante de los sintetizadores, configurando una madeja de parches. Uno de los tracks más destacados es “Knot of Spirit (Synth Version)”, en el que nos sumergimos en el mundo etéreo donde levitan las líneas ambientales que se van develando en capas e invitando al oyente a un viaje por la Kosmische Musik que continua en “Life at Altitude”. “Terminal Clock” toma un pulso rítmico que lo acerca a la pista de baile, en tanto que “The Landscape Listens” que cierra este álbum se siente las líneas sintetizadas que revelan que el viaje interior de Barbieri fue lleno de regocijo.

“Spirit Exit” is the third LP by the Italian composer and musician based in Milano, Caterina Barbieri, who recorded this album in her home studio during two-month pandemic lockdown in 2020. In this solo work she focused in three prominent women who were a source of inspiration for the composition: Spanish mystic, teacher, writer and nun, Saint Teresa of Ávila, the Italian humanist philosopher Rosi Braidotti and the American poet Emily Dickinson. This led her on an inner journey that is embodied in the winged forms reaching for the synth lines and the angelic voice that she unfurls on this debut album released on her Light Years label.

She studied modular synthesis at the prestigious Elektronmusikstudion in Stockholm. From then she has been proposing cutting-edge sounds through her custom modular synthesizer. Her characteristic polyphonies and polyrhythms are found from the opening track “At Your Gamut” with its melodies that look like spirals fluttering throughout space. In “Transfixed” her voice emerges to come out of the depths and impose her presence against the epic synthetic notes. The tracks "Canticle of Cryo" and "Broken Melody" have in common the urgent voice and choirs and the frenetic and abstract synthesizers lines, configuring a skein of patches. One of the most outstanding tracks is “Knot of Spirit (Synth Version)”, in which we immerse in the ethereal world where the environmental lines are revealed in layers that levitate and invites the listener to a journey through the Kosmische Musik that follows in "Life at Altitude as well." “Terminal Clock” takes on a driven rhythm that brings it closer to the dance-floor, whereas “The Landscape Listens” that closes this album, feels the synthesized lines that reveal that Barbieri's inner journey was full of joy.
