Kristin Oppenheim es una artista sonora que reside en Nueva York. Sus trabajos se han presentado en las principales galería de EE.UU. y Europa. Ella trabaja con instalaciones basadas en la escritura, la interpretación, el cine y el sonido desde principios de los ’90.

"Voices Fill My Head” es una colección de trabajos sonoros grabados entre 1993 y 1999 que consiste en ocho piezas compuestas únicamente con la voz de la artista, sin el acompañamiento de instrumentos.

Desde principios de los ‘90 Oppenheim ha producido composiciones vocales para galerías y museos, aunque no trabajando el ámbito musical, sino que para su interacción con instalaciones sonoras.

Nuestra protagonista canta a acapella canciones cuyas letras son de su propia autoría o bien, compuestas por otros(as) artistas. Comienza con la canción “Hey Joe” (más conocida por la interpretación de Jimi Hendrix), le sigue “Tap Your Shoes”, “The Eyes I Remember”, “Scat” y “Behind a Cloudy Sky”, comienzan a entrar en un loop, creando un patrón rítmico o beat y de esta forma crea nuevos significados a las canciones.

"Muchas de mis composiciones se basan en la idea de cómo la memoria se mueve dentro y fuera del tiempo, por lo que las narraciones están intrínsecamente fragmentadas y cargadas emocionalmente. Aquí es donde comienzan a tomar forma las torsiones y las capas de la historia, y donde el trabajo se vuelve más abstracto y poético a medida que lo escuchas". Ocho canciones cantadas acapella - sin instrumentos algunos - transmiten una fuerte carga emocional, lo que demuestra la calidad compositiva de Kristin Oppenheim.

Kristin Oppenheim is a sound artist based in New York. Her works have been exposed in leading galleries in the US and Europe. She has been working with sound installations based on writing, performance, film and sound since the early 90s.

‘Voices Fill My Head’ is a collection of sound works recorded between 1993 and 1999 consisting of eight pieces composed solely with the voice of the artist, without the accompaniment of instruments.

Since the early 90s Oppenheim has produced vocal compositions for galleries and museums, although she does not work in the musical realm, but rather for her interaction with sound installations.

Our protagonist sings acapella songs whose lyrics are her own or composed by other artists. It begins with the song ‘Hey Joe’ (better known for the interpretation by Jimi Hendrix), followed by ‘Tap Your Shoes’, ‘The Eyes I Remember’, ‘Scat’ and ‘Behind a Cloudy Sky’, that started to go into a loop, creating a rhythmic pattern or beat, creating new meanings to these songs.

"A lot of my compositions are based on the idea of how memory moves in and out of time, so the narratives are inherently fragmented and emotionally charged. This is quite clear in “Starry Night” in which she repeatedly sings ‘Screaming’s me tied’.

Eight songs sung acapella - without any instruments - transmit a strong emotional charge, which demonstrates the compositional skills of Kristin Oppenheim.
