Christopher Chaplin es un músico, compositor y artista experimental británico quien estudió piano en Vevey, Suiza en los ’80, estableciéndose luego en Londres para convertirse en actor. Trabajó en documentales y filmes. Desde 2005 enfocó su carrera como compositor editando más de 20 discos. Es el hijo más joven del afamado comediante y actor británico Charlie Chapplin y su cuarta esposa, la actriz Oona O'Neill.

“Patriarchs” hace referencia a los diez patriarcas antediluvianos, quienes fueron anteriores al Diluvio enumerados en la genealogía de Génesis V, desde Adán hasta Noé. El álbum trata sobre el linaje de estos patriarcas y su viaje desde la oscuridad de la Caída a la iluminación.

En este álbum se combina la música electrónica y de vanguardia, desplegando un paisaje sonoro inquietante, que transita entre la oscuridad y la luz. Las gruesas texturas electrónicas incluyen grabaciones como goteras, suaves ruidos metálicos y el canto de pájaros. Todo ello acompañado de música de cámara, en donde fascinantes sesiones de cuerdas y oboes configuran un mundo onírico, grandilocuente, creando un halo sagrado que se siente en todo el álbum. Adicionalmente se incorporan voces, algunas de ellas recortadas y balbuceantes y otras que pueden completar una frase, como aquella de Hans-Joachim Roedelius (Cluster, Harmonia), uno de los pioneros del Krautrock, con quien Chaplin ha tocado en distintos escenarios.

“Kenan” con su forma wagneriana hace presagiar mal augurio donde animales y aves son reunidos para ser salvados del anunciado apocalíptico diluvio que comienza a tomar tonos oscuros con voces retorcidas que se plasman en “Mahalalel”. Cada pieza de este álbum tiene sus propios sonidos que transitan entre la melodía y elementos disonantes, sorprendiendo por su atmósfera y matices expresados en un lenguaje inaccesible. 

En “Lamech” Chaplin rasguea las cuerdas y los teclados ambientales creando espacios acogedores que también se evidencian en el último track “Noah”.

La música cinemática de Chaplin permite crear distintas escenas y transporta al oyente a imaginar la impronta del devenir histórico que se propone evocar este disco.

British musician, composer and experimental artist Christopher Chaplin studied piano in Vevey, Switzerland in the 1980s, then settled in London to become an actor. He worked on documentaries and films. Since 2005 he has focused his career as a songwriter by releasing over 20 albums. He is the youngest son of famed British comedian and actor Charlie Chaplin and his fourth wife, actress, Oona O'Neill.

"Patriarchs" refers to the ten antediluvian patriarchs who predated the Flood listed in the Genesis V genealogy, from Adam to Noah. The album is about the lineage of these patriarchs and their journey from the darkness of the Fall to enlightenment.

In this album, electronic and avant-garde music are combined, displaying a disturbing soundscape that transits between darkness and light. The thick electronic textures include recordings such as leaks, soft metallic noises, and birdsongs. All this accompanied by chamber music, where fascinating strings sessions and oboes configure a dreamlike, bombastic world, creating a sacred halo that is felt across the album. Additionally, voices are incorporated, some of them chopped and stammering and others can complete a phrase, such as the one of Hans-Joachim Roedelius (Cluster, Harmonia), one of the pioneers of Krautrock, with whom Chaplin has played on different stages.

"Kenan" with its Wagnerian form heralds a bad omen where animals and birds are gathered to be saved from the announced apocalyptic flood that begins to take on dark tones with twisted voices that are reflected in "Mahalalel". Each piece on this album has its own sounds that move between melody and dissonant elements, surprising for its atmosphere and nuances expressed in an inaccessible language.

On “Lamech” Chaplin strums the strings and ambient keyboards creating cozy spaces that are also evident in the last track “Noah”.

Chaplin's cinematic music allows the creation of different scenes and transports the listener to imagine the imprint of the historical evolution that this album aims to evoke.
