La música y artista visual británica Elizabeth S. es colaboradora e intérprete en el dúo Eyeless In Gaza, una de las bandas seminales del post-punk, ahora lanza su primer álbum en solitario en el sello Klanggalerie.

Da sus primeros pasos en el folk británico que despliega en este disco, junto a influencias del post-punk, el gótico y el rock. Con arreglos de piano, teclados electrónicos y guitarra que plasma a lo largo de doce temas, en las que colaboran Martyn Bates, y Alan Trench. 

Arranca este álbum con distorsionadas guitarras y pesadas baterías, lo que parecía presagiar que el disco fuera estruendoso, sin embargo Elizabeth S. con el tono oscuro de sus canciones nos deja entrar en su espacio íntimo, a través de canciones folk que me hace recordar a Rose McDowall, colaboradora en Current 93. 

“The Carter Girl” con su voz operática y sombrías notas de órgano, Elizabeth S., ofrece una de las más bellas canciones de este disco, cuya letras nostálgicas hablan de: “y tus ojos azules, sonrisas que miran a la cara de él.”

Con los cantos encantados de Elizabeth S. que parecen una fábula misteriosa, nos dejamos rendir por su embrujo y parsimonia musical.

British music and visual artist Elizabeth S. is a collaborator and performer in the duo Eyeless In Gaza, one of the seminal post-punk bands, have released her first solo album on Klanggalerie label.

She takes her first steps into the British folk that she displays on this album, alongside influences from post-punk, gothic and rock. Together with arrangements on piano, electronic keyboards and guitar she display across twelve songs, in which Martyn Bates and Alan Trench collaborate.

This album starts with distorted guitars and heavy drums, which seemed to presage that the album would be thunderous, however Elizabeth S. with the dark tone of her songs, we have been allowed into an intimate space, across folk mournful songs that reminds me of Rose McDowall, contributor at Current 93.

"The Carter Girl" with her operatic voice and mournful organ notes, Elizabeth S., offers one of the most beautiful songs on this album, whose nostalgic lyrics speak of: "and your blue eyes, smiles that look at his face."

With Elizabeth S.'s haunted songs that seem like a mysterious fable, we let ourselves be surrendered by her spell and musical parsimony.
