Natalie Beridze | "Mapping Debris" | Monika Enterprise | 2021
|

Natalie Beridze is a composer and songwriter based in Tbilisi, Georgia, where she is considered a pioneer of electronic music.
She has released records on various European labels such as Max.E, Monika Enterprise, CMYK, Laboratory Instinct, and CES Records, to name a few. In addition to her solo projects, she has collaborated with artists such as Thomas Brinkmann, AGF (Antye Greie), Ryuichi Sakamoto, among other artists. Also contributed to composition and Georgian electronic music and is increasingly working on music for acoustic instruments, orchestra, and choir, as well as composing pieces for piano.
"Mapping Debris" is an ensemble of material that Beridze has on old hard drives, as well as scraps of sounds recorded and produced in the past. She recycled and mixed all this material it into new samples to compose this album.
This album proves to be versatile because we find both minimal techno tracks like “Be Airborn” and “Interlaced Cosmic Trash” with their frenetic driving rhythms, as well as the melancholic piano piece like “Mapping Debris (Cardboard Blues)”, sung by Beridze. “Mapping Debris III (West Thumb” and Mapping Debris (Pattern of Translation”) travel through pop ambient areas. On the other hand, the most twisted facet emerge on “Swing Low and Closer” whose sounds were super manipulated.
She closes the album with “Perishing Sections” whose electronic textures spread bright and harmonic tones. Natalie Beridze's versatility proves her skills as an artist.
