Alessandro Cortini es un connotado músico y compositor de origen italiano con varios discos lanzados en Important Records, Mute, Hospital Productions y otros autoeditados, además de colaboraciones con Merzbow y Lawrence English, entre otros artistas. También es miembro de Nine Inch Nails. Además, trabajó bajo los seudónimos de SONOIO, Skarn y Slumberman.

El título del álbum representa el contraste que hay entre la luz y la sombre que podemos encontrar en la pintura y otras formas de arte. Según Cortini: “muestra que no importa cómo ordenes las cosas, siempre habrá dos elementos que tienden a ser lo opuesto entre sí que constituyen la verdad, o lo inventan todo".

Este es el segundo disco de nuestro protagonista en Mute que consiste en ocho tracks en el que se despliegan la electrónica y el ambient cuyas texturas electrónicas formando capas que se superponen entre si como muestra la visual de “Scuro Chiaro”, filmado por Emilie Elizabeth. Junto a ello tenemos suaves pulsaciones rítmicas y glitches soterrados. 

Los tonos sombríos y melancólicos y con un aire épico, la música de Cortini a base de algunas pocas notas de sintetizador que se van amalgamando, se expande lentamente creando una atmósfera cautivante y un ritmo hipnotizador, nada más escuchar “Ecco”, o en la antípoda de “Sempre”, un track asfixiante, que bordea el ruido.

“Nessuno” es una atmósfera que va in crescendo que logra llegar al cénit de un disco que vuela por todo lo alto.

Alessandro Cortini is a renowned Italian-born musician and composer with several albums released on Important Records, Mute, Hospital Productions and other self-released, as well as collaborations with Merzbow and Lawrence English, among other artists. He is also member of Nine Inch Nails. Additionally, he worked under the monikers of SONOIO, Skarn, and Slumberman.

The title of the album represents the contrast between light and shadow that we can find in painting and other art forms. According to Cortini: “and in a way it shows that no matter how you order things there’s always going to be two elements that tend to be the opposite of each other that make up the truth—or make up everything.”

This is his second album on Mute, which consists of eight tracks in which electronics and ambient are displayed, alongwith electronic textures that build layers that overlap each other as shown by the visual of “Scuro Chiaro”, shot by Emilie Elizabeth. Furthermore, we have smooth rhythmic beats and buried glitches.

Along with dark and melancholic tones with an epic air, Cortini’s music is based on a few synthesizer notes that slowly expand creating captivating atmospheres with the support of soft driving rhythms, as soon as you listen to “Ecco”, or in the antipode of “Semper”, a suffocating track that borders on noise.

“Nessuno” is a crescendo atmosphere that manages to reach the zenith of a record that flies overhead.
