Island People | "II"  | Raster – Artistic Platform | 2021

June 2021

Island People is made up of the Scottish-Irish quartet Conor Dalton, David Donaldson, Greame Reedie and Ian Maclennan who have just released their second album “II”, after their highly acclaimed debut in 2017.

This album creates blissful soundscapes that move between quiet environments and those more disturbing and dark, through electronic arrangements and sliding guitars.

There are several notable tracks here like the opener "His Illusion" whose epic overture spreads its synthesized wings creating a great setting. "Loneliness Has A Purpose" is gravitational because through its movements - which it enchants for its slow pace - our body moves slowly from one side to the other.

"Ten Green Bottles" with its noisy textures as if they were stones washed by the sea of the British Isles, a few lines of keyboard produce ambient mattresses.

"Idyll" completes all the spaces based on acoustic and electric guitar chords, while "Sirens" is overwhelming with its guitar noise on the edge of distortion. "Stalling" has an intriguing opening in which singer Alice Hill-Woods bursts in, contributing lyrics and vocals.

“II” is a balanced album that creates the sensation of spatiality and at the same time welcomes the listener to have a mind-boggling journey.
