Maja Ratkje, es música, cantante, multiinstrumentista y artista noruega.  Posee una una discografía de más de 100 álbumes y ha escrito música para danza, obras de teatro de radio e instalaciones de galerías. Es miembro de la Akademie der Künste de Berlín. Participa en varios proyectos como Sult/Hunger, Aeolian, Spunk, Avant Joik, Maja S. K. Ratkje & Stian Westerhusentre, entre otros muchos.  

Cuando escuchó la música electrónica de Karlheinz Stockhausen y Arne Nordheim, decidió ser compositora de música contemporánea.

En Noruega, como en otros países, el nivel del mar ha crecido producto del cambio climático. Ratkje declara: “A veces te encuentras tocando algo que se hace cada vez más fuerte, o suena cada vez más grande. Los niveles del mar pueden aumentar significativamente, o solo un poco, pero SUCEDERÁN”.

Motivo por el cual se crea “Vannstand” (que significa nivel del mar), Maja Ratkje, utiliza medidas locales del nivel del mar para crear partituras, que son interpretadas musicalmente por niños. 

Este disco de ocho piezas es lúdico, impredecible, donde los acordes del violín, las voces soterradas, el movimiento del mar, las notas de piano toman su propia dirección, mientras en otros momentos se reúnen y mezclan creando un lenguaje compulsivo que va en crescendo, alcanzando diferentes clímax.

La voz de Ratkje que tiene diferentes propiedades tímbricas interviene sutilmente, fusionándose con los instrumentos acústicos, mientras el protagonismo en las voces de niños está marcado en todo el álbum. Este protagonismo será también fundamental para que estos niños generen conciencia y produzcan cambios en las decisiones que afecten el medio ambiente.

Ratkje & Stian Westerhusentre, among many others.

When she heard the electronic music of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Arne Nordheim, she decided to be a contemporary music composer.

In Norway, as in other countries, the sea level has risen as a result of climate change. Ratkje declares: “Sometimes you find yourself playing something that grows stronger and stronger, or sounds bigger and bigger. Sea levels may rise significantly, or just a bit, but they WILL rise.”

Reason for creating “Vannstand” (which means sea level), Maja Ratkje uses local measurements of sea level to create scores, which are performed musically by children.

This eight-piece album is playful, unpredictable, where the violin chords, the buried voices, the movement of the sea, and the piano notes take their own direction, while at other times they meet and mix creating a compulsive language that goes in crescendo, reaching different climaxes.

Ratkje's voice which has different timbral properties, intervenes subtly, merging with the acoustic instruments, while the role in children's voices is marked throughout the album. This role will also be essential for these children to raise awareness and produce changes in decisions that affect the environment.
