Después de su actuación en el festival Millennium Park en Chicago, el trío noruego, compuesto por Ivar Grydeland, Tonny Kluften y Ingar Zach, se reunió en el estudio de Wilco con dos de sus miembros, Nels Cline (guitarra) and Glenn Kotche (percusión) y los artistas invitados Yuka Honda, en teclados y Nels Cline en guitarra y efectos.

El propósito fue realizar una sesión de improvisación en la que cada uno aportó lo suyo libremente. “Side Wind” comienza con suaves acordes desafinados, mientras se va agregando la percusión aleatoria y tablas, a la que se suman pulsaciones de bajo que imprimen intensidad. Luego de algunos minutos la percusión se hace más presente, así como las guitarras. Mientras en “Higher” los acordes intentan ponerse de acuerdo en el suave ambient, en “Lower” las guitarras chirriantes en un comienzo dejan en suspenso por algunos momentos, el ataque inminente de las guitarras que finalmente se desata.   

Todo termina con “The Unshot”, un somnoliente diálogo entre guitarras, un golpe incesante a un tambor y los acordes del banjo.

“Bow Shoulder” es un trabajo colaborativo basado en la libertad de los músicos para hacerse de su propia interpretación de cómo intervenir en los complejos y oscuros bosquejos musicales que se iban configurando.

After their performance at the Millennium Park festival in Chicago, the Norwegian trio, consisting of Ivar Grydeland, Tonny Kluften and Ingar Zach, met two Wilco members, Nels Cline (guitar) and Glenn Kotche (percussion) in their studio) and guest artists Yuka Honda on keyboards and Nels Cline on guitar and effects.

The purpose was to hold an improvisation session in which each one contributed their own freely. "Side Wind" begins with soft out of tune chords, while adding random percussion and tablas, to which are added bass beats that print intensity. After a few minutes the percussion becomes more present, as well as the guitars. While on "Higher" the chords try to agree in the soft ambient, on "Lower" the squeaky guitars at first leave in suspense for a few moments, the imminent guitars attack that is finally unleashed.

It all ends with “The Unshot”, a sleepy dialogue between guitars, an incessant beat to a drum and the banjo chords.

"Bow Shoulder" is a collaborative work based on the freedom of the musicians to make their own interpretation of how intervene in the complex and dark musical sketches that were being configured.
