What was or were the sources of inspiration for the making of the album "La Síntesis"?
"More than influences, I would prefer to speak of desire and will gathered around a common objective. The first of these objectives was to approach the ‘project’ from a certain blank page, without a preconceived idea of how it should sound or what we were going to do, trying to learn along the way, I, for example, took advantage of improving something in my basic drum technique."
What role does improvisation play in the music you make?
"Improvisation is very important for us and it was for this album, especially at the beginning, when the structure of the songs was dictated by dynamics that stimulated improvisation, within certain rhythmic and harmonic parameters. During the recording we kept this way of working. Since all or almost all the bases are Jams records and over the overdubs, the guests faced the songs without much preparation and many times it was first takes that remained in the final mix. That said, the later production has quite thoughtful arrangements and worked from trial and error, which moves the records away from what would be a 'Jam Band'."
During this pandemic, I have listened to very good music and the music production has not diminished. How it was to make music in these times?
"The truth is that this album was recorded between 2018 and 2019, long before the pandemic and subsequent seclusions. For my part, I have been working on small loops that keep me active and entertained for now, although I miss rehearsals and meetings a lot with other musicians."
Several friends participate in “La Síntesis” making this album a collaborative work. What was it like incorporating the musical ideas of the different members?
"Well, from the beginning of the project we thought that freedom and respect would be the principles that would guide us in this musical adventure, and I like to think that we fulfilled and that the whole process occurred naturally. In any case, incorporating the different ideas and personalities may not be easy, but we privilege the common good and certain things are left out of the album without major drama."
As far I’m concerned you are continuing your own projects. Can you give us a brief description of the next steps?
"For my part I just released a cassette of an old project ‘La Banda's’ through ETCS records entitled ‘¿La libertad guiando al pueblo?’ Which is a kind of not so musical collage that includes recordings made during October 2018 in Santiago from Chile and soon the Non Local Society imprint will release "Radiophony" a record created which is based on FM radio loops that will be released under my own name ".
