William Basinski es uno de los máximos exponentes del ambient quien se formó como músico clásico, especializándose en clarinete y saxofón. 

A finales de los’70 descubre la práctica de hacer loops y un interés especial por compositores como John Cage, Steve Reich y Henry Mancini. El sonido de cuerdas atrae la atención de Basinski quien trabajaba pequeños fragmentos, así como el ruido que producen las radios estáticas de onda corta. 

“Lamentations” con su carga nostálgica y con un fuerte carácter épico, representa a un banda sonora como lo es en “O, My Daughter, O, My Sorrow”, donde la voz operática y fémina emerge desde lo profundo hasta relevarse en un casi primer plano, siempre con una sesión de cuerdas en el trasfondo. “Passio” es una obra fascinante con sus coros celestiales, algo melancólicos pero sorprendentemente bellos. Todo este material Bsisnski lo realizó hace 20 años atrás y que ahora toma vida en este disco.

“Silent Spring” es otro viaje al que nos invita este músico de Texas donde la repetición toma una forma hipnótica, que no tiene fin. Sobre esto Basinski declara en ‘The Wire’: “Me gusta poder escuchar las cosas una y otra vez y simplemente poner eso y loopearlo y vivir con eso por un tiempo.”

“All These Too, I, I Love” es otra pieza que incluye el canto operático grabado de un disco defectuoso y que se transforma en un sonido recurrente, sin fin y que continua en “Please, This Shit Has Got To Stop”.

En “Lamentations” la belleza y el dolor, es un ir y venir, es un loop que retrata nuestros tiempos.

William Basinski is one of the greatest exponents of ambient who trained as a classical musician, specializing in clarinet and saxophone.

In the late 1970s, he discovered the loop-making practice and had a special interest in composers such as John Cage, Steve Reich, and Henry Mancini. The sound of strings attracts Basinski’s attention who worked on small fragments, as well as the noise produced by short-wave static radios.

"Lamentations" with its nostalgic feeling and with a strong epic character, represents a soundtrack as it is on "O, My Daughter, O, My Sorrow", where the operatic female vocals emerge from the depths until it is relieved in an almost foreground, always with a string session in the background. "Passio" is a fascinating work with its heavenly choruses, somewhat melancholic but surprisingly beautiful. All this material Basinski did 20 years ago and now comes to life on this album.

"Silent Spring" is another trip to which the Texas musician invites us where repetition takes on a hypnotic form, which has no end. On this Basinski declares in ‘The Wire’s’ interview: “I like to be able to listen to things over and over again, and just put that on and loop it, and just live in for a while.”

"All These Too, I, I Love" is another piece that includes the operatic song recorded from a defective album and that transforms into a recurring, endless sound that continues on "Please, This Shit Has Got To Stop".

On "Lamentations" beauty and pain, it is a coming and going, it is a loop that portrays our times.
