Oliver Coates es un chelista, compositor y productor residente en Londres que toca el chelo y trabaja con laptop y cintas. 

Coates ha contribuido a las grabaciones de Radiohead, colaboró en la composición con Laurie Spiegel y John Luther Adams, y actuó como improvisador con Dean Blunt y Micachu (Mica Levi). 

Coates ha recibido el premio al Artista Joven de la Royal Philharmonic Society y ha sido comisionado para música de cine por el artista visual Lawrence Lek, grabado con el compositor Jonny Greenwood en las partituras de “The Master and Phantom Thread” de Paul Thomas Anderson y colaboró con la músico Mica Levi en el álbum de 2016 “Remain Calm”. También ha tocado en vivo con Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Jonny Greenwood, Actress y Genesis P-Orridge.

“skins n slime” es su cuarto álbum en convergen la música clásica, drone, ruido y doom metal. 

La apertura de este álbum con “Caregiver part 1 (breathing)” muestra la faceta clásica aunque procesada a través de loops y con el particular tratamiento digital de las cuerdas, produce murallas de sonido que rozan el ruido, por ejemplo: “Caregiver part 5 (money)”.

La melancólica "Philomela Mutation" en tanto es la banda sonora del cortometraje de Marianna Simnett "The Bird Game"y antecede al magnífico monólogo del chelo en “Butoh Baby” que despliega sus alas con ribetes metálicos y brillantes. Lo sigue, “Reunification 2018”, una pieza de drone-metal que se esparce por todo el espacio y que a un volumen razonablemente alto, es una experiencia estremecedora. 

“Honey” es una elegante y bella pieza que tanto tiene de oscuridad como luz, nostalgia y alegría. Ciertamente conmovedora para un álbum de gran sensibilidad y sutileza.

Oliver Coates is a London based cellist, composer and producer who plays the cello and works with laptop and tapes.

Coates has contributed to the Radiohead recordings, collaborated on composition with Laurie Spiegel and John Luther Adams, and performed as an improviser with Dean Blunt and Micachu (Mica Levi).

Coates has received the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award and has been commissioned for film music by visual artist Lawrence Lek, recorded with composer Jonny Greenwood on the scores for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master and Phantom Thread”. Has collaborated with musician Mica Levi on the 2016 album "Remain Calm." He has also performed live with Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Jonny Greenwood, Actress, and Genesis P-Orridge.

"Skins n slime" is his fourth album in which classical music, drone, noise and doom metal converge.

“Caregiver part 1 (breathing)” the opener, shows the classical face although intervened and processed through loops and the particular digital treatment on strings, producing walls of sound that are on the edge of noise as on “Caregiver part 5 ( money) ".

The melancholic "Philomela Mutation" is the soundtrack to Marianna Simnett's short film "The Bird Game" and precedes the magnificent cello monologue on "Butoh Baby" that spreads its wings with shiny metallic trim. It is followed by “Reunification 2018”, a piece of drone-metal that spreads throughout the space and I have slightly idea that on a reasonably high volume, is a chilling experience.

"Honey" is an elegant and beautiful piece that has both darkness and light, nostalgia and joy. This is an album of great sensitivity and subtlety.
