Kamila Govorçin is a Chilean DJ and co-founder of the electronic music label Panal Records on which are published some works in the techno vein.
"Ánima" is her debut album framed in the ambient music and introspective atmospheres, inspired by the context of profound political and social changes in Chile, and also in personal terms; she changed the capital of Santiago, for Cáhuil, a small and beautiful Chilean farmhouse near the Pacific Ocean.
“Ánima” was recorded between September 2019 and February 2020 and contains five tracks lasting over an hour. Kamila plays various synthesizers and a sequencer, flute, and hand drum. In addition, vinyl samples and field recordings of the Cáhuil forest, Chinese ceremonies and jazz fusion bands.
Collaborate in this album Tristán Sotomayor on kultrún, Lucio Sánchez and Alans Barahona on drum and keyboard samples and Rafael Gallardo on a recording of a Chinese ritual.
This album contains textures with expansive ambient lines with an organic approach when we meet the wind or small noises from nature, along with Kamila's voice that hovers with her echoes into the space.
“Ánima”, which gives the album its title, displays a gorgeous and somber melody that is sustained so that the listener can begin his/her introspective journey, while the handdrums give a tribal hue that smells of earth and that configure a kind of ritual. All this immersive soundscape conjures me up to the captivating ambience of O Yuki Conjugate.
“Viento” transits through the dark spaces covered in thick layers of drones, mean while “Introversión” suggests a more minimalist and organic aesthetic. On “Rito de Muerte” the purifying water that flows through the contours of this piece, as well as the overlapping chant of Kamila and the percussion of the kultrun, that invites to the listener to a reflection and to be carried away by this dreamy music.
