Clarice Jensen | "The Experience Of Repetition As Death" | FatCat Records | 2020   Clarice Jensen | "The Experience Of Repetition As Death" | FatCat Records | 2020

Clarice Jensen is a Brooklyn, New York-based composer and cellist, and she is an active collaborator who has recorded or performed with artists such as Jóhann Jóhannsson, Max Richter, Björk, Stars of the Lid, Dustin O 'Halloran (A Winged Victory For The Sullen), Joanna Newsom, Nico Muhly and Nick Cave, among others.
This new album and third to date, released by FatCat sublabel, 130701, displays five beautiful neoclassical pieces where the predominant cello overlaps with thick electronically processed layers that are wrapped in endless loops creating a penetrating atmosphere.
One of the aspects that the title of this LP evokes is the agony of Clarice Jensen's mother and shortly after her death. Repetition refers to everyday tasks such as shopping, paying bills, visits to the doctor and hospital.
The music expands and contracts through loops of different layers that overlap and produce the feeling of a journey to the depths of death and life, alpha and omega, beginning and end. The above, I can’t stop linking it with the world’s health emergency that we are living. However, Clarice Jensen's beautiful music leaves me with a glimpse of hope.
