El artista sónico alemán Gerald Fiebig trabaja desde 2007 en las antiguas fábricas de gas en Augsburgo-Oberhausen por su interés histórico y sonoro. Estas fábricas abiertas en 1915 representaron el apogeo de la era industrial en Alemania. Hoy, están convertidas en centros culturales donde la tecnología y los diseños minimalistas, han borrado las difíciles condiciones en las que trabajaban sus trabajadores. “Gasworks” recopila instalaciones sonoras, composiciones radiofónicas y actuaciones en vivo, creadas entre 2010 y 2016, algunas de ellas junto con Sascha Stadlmeier aka EMERGE y otras con Christian Z. Müller. Son cinco tracks que incluyen grabaciones procesadas de sonidos del gas y la maquinaria industrial, las historias contadas por un ex empleado de la fábrica de gas y las improvisaciones en vivo en la cámara de eco del gran tanque de gas. Abre este disco "post industrial" que es una instalación sonora que tuvo lugar en el llamado Apparatehaus durante el festival Grenzenlos en 2014. Los sonidos del silbido del gas fueron procesados por Gerald Fiebig y las grabaciones de campo de una fábrica cercana en un edificio aún más antiguo que las fábricas de gas, fue procesado por EMERGE. “Ohrentauchen mit Echolot-1” es una performance en vivo en la gran fábrica Gaskessel durante el Asche zu Farbgut festival en 2016. Los diversos sonidos de herramientas, juguetes e instrumentos así como la voz y el cuerpo de Fieber, fueron creados en una cámara de metal de 84 metros de alto. “Nach der Industrie” es una instalación sonora realizada en el Lange Kunstnacht festival en 2010 y en ésta se incluye los sonidos del gas procesados, junto a la narración del fallecido Johann Artner, quien trabajó entre 1947 y 1989 en las fábricas de gas. En “Ohrentauchen-mit-Echolot-2” se capturan los ecos profundos de percusiones a metales y finalmente en “Echoes-of-Industry” se reemplazan los sonidos de los gases, por las máquinas textiles, augurando así la emergente industria textil, mientras se anunciaba la caída de las fábricas de gas. Aquí Christian Z. Müller toca saxophones y el theremin. Este último instrumento hace un guiño al incierto futuro de la producción digital. Fiebig con esta propuesta sonora muestra sin duda los oscuros espacios de estas fábricas de gas, a través de las escalofriantes soplidos de los gases y las percusiones que caen en el vacío más profundo. Today, they are converted into cultural centers where technology and minimalist designs have erased the difficult conditions in which their workers worked. "Gasworks" compiles sound installations, radio compositions and live performances, created between 2010 and 2016, some of them together with Sascha Stadlmeier aka EMERGE and others, with Christian Z. Müller. This CD consists in five tracks that include processed recordings of gas sounds and industrial machinery, stories told by a former employee of the gas factory and improvisations live in the echo chamber of the large gas tank. The opener “post industrial” is a sound installation that took place in the so-called Apparatehaus during Grenzenlos festival, 2014. The sounds of hissing gas were processed by Gerald Fiebig and the field recordings of a nearby factory in a building even older than the gas factories, were processed by EMERGE. "Ohrentauchen mit Echolot-1" is a live performance at the large Gaskessel factory during the Asche zu Farbgut festival in 2016. The various sounds of tools, toys and instruments as well as Fieber’s voice and body, were created inside the 84-metre high metal chamber. "Nach der Industrie" is a sound installation made at the Lange Kunstnacht festival in 2010 and it includes the sounds of processed gas, along with the narrative of the late Johann Artner, who worked between 1947 and 1989 in the gasworks. On "Ohrentauchen-mit-Echolot-2" the deep echoes of metal percussion are captured and finally on "Echoes-of-Industry", the sounds of hissing gas are replaced by textile machines, thus predicting the emerging textile industry, while the fall of the gas factories was announced. Here Christian Z. Müller plays saxophones and the theremin. This last instrument makes a nod to the uncertain future of digital production. Fiebig with this sonic proposal undoubtedly shows the dark spaces of these gasworks, through the gas sounds and the percussions that fall into the deepest void.
