William Basinski es un músico y compositor de formación clásica que ha trabajado en medios experimentales durante más de 40 años. A pocas semanas de las primeras y alucinantes fotografías de un agujero negro color rojo brillante en sus bordes y un profundo color negro al centro, “On Time Out of Time” entra en escena en el momento apropiado, capturando los sonidos de la fusión de dos agujeros negros masivos y distantes a 1.300 millones de años. Este disco presenta dos largas piezas comisionadas originalmente para las instalaciones “ER=EPR” y “Orbihedron” por los artistas Evelina Domnitch y Dmitry Gelfand (en colaboración con Jean-Marc Chomaz and LIGO) pra la exhibición “Limits of Knowing” realizada en Berlín por la curadora, Isabel de Sena. El tema que da título es este álbum, presenta un drone que evoca un viaje interminable hacia lugares enigmáticos donde todo e incluso la luz es absorbida hasta desaparecer en la oscuridad de los agujeros negros. Ciertamente la música inquietante cuya atmósfera minimalista podría despertar algún optimismo por sus características melódicas, sin embargo a medida que avanza el track las melodías ondulantes se tornan sombrías en el horizonte perdido. La segunda pieza “4(E+D)4(ER+EPR)” es muy diferente a esa sola capa planeadora que se abría paso en el espacio, ahora emergen texturas más rugosas constituidas por varias capas a base de loops de extractos de diferentes fuentes. La nostalgia se asoma en esta pista y se despliega por largos minutos hasta desaparecer. "On Time Out of Time" captures the sounds of the fusion of two massive black holes, distant 1,300 million years ago. This album presents two long pieces commissioned originally for the installations “ER = EPR” and “Orbihedron” by artists Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand (in collaboration with Jean-Marc Chomaz and LIGO) for the “Limits of Knowing” exhibition held in Berlin by the curator, Isabel de Sena. The title track features a drone that evokes an endless journey towards enigmatic places where everything and even light is absorbed until disappearing in the darkness of the black holes. Certainly the disquieting music whose minimalist atmosphere could arouse some optimism for its melodic characteristics, however, as the track progresses, the undulating melodies become somber into the lost horizon. The second piece "4 (E + D) 4 (ER + EPR)" is very different from that single layer that was making its way into space, now there are more rugged textures consisting of several layers based on loops of snippets of different sources. Nostalgia looms on this track and unfurls for long minutes until it disappears.
