Yuko Araki es una multiinstrumentista y compositora radicada en Tokio, quien comenzó a tocar el piano a temprana edad y en su adolescencia se inspiró en la música hardcore y metal. Con estas influencias amplió sus proyectos, siendo baterista en la banda de rock progresivo Kuunatic y miembro fundadora del dúo noise Concierto de la Familia y su proyecto en solitario bajo su propio nombre enraizado en el noise japonés y drone.

En 2019, lanzó un EP “I” para el sello indonesio Gerpfast record y su álbum debut “II” para el sello italiano Commando Vanessa. Al año siguiente realizó varias grabaciones en vivo (de shows en el Café Oto de Londres y Kagurane de Tokio). En 2021, Room40 lanzó su primer álbum “End Of Trilogy” y en octubre 2023 el sello australiano publica su nuevo larga duración “IV”.

La relación de Araki con sus dispositivos electrónicos pasa por una relación corporal, por lo que su voz juega un rol de encantamiento en la música que elabora, más que cantar o relatar historias. Es por ello que invita a Taichi Nagura de la banda black metal/noise Endon para que contribuya con su voz.

Abre el álbum con los ritmos punzantes y post-industriales de “‡Magnetar” creando un aura bizarra con su voz procesada. En “‡Otiron” las gruesas capas de ruido marcan un ritmo monótono que se combinan con su fantasmal que juega con la repetición. “‡Damontoid” crea una atmósfera brumosa que evoca la dark-wave/synth-wave con un beat marcado y líneas sintetizadas oscuras. “†White Petals” con sus sintes melancólicos me recuerdan a los primeros discos de Death In June. “†Sloshing (feat.Taichi Nagura)” que cierra el disco destaca la voz espeluznante de Taichi Nagura junto a una pared de ruido sórdida. 

Yuko Araki entrega un disco inquietante que vierte bocanadas de ruido sin hacer concesiones, donde su voz se convierte en un instrumento más para crear una ambientación escalofriante.

Yuko Araki is a Tokyo-based multi-instrumentalist and composer who began playing piano at an early age and in her teens was inspired by hardcore and metal music. With these influences she expanded her projects being a drummer in the progressive rock band Kuunatic, a founding member of the noise duo Concierto de la Familia, and his solo project under his name rooted in Japanese noise and drone.

Araki's relationship with her electronic devices involves a bodily relationship, so her voice plays a role of enchantment in the music she creates, more than singing or telling stories. That is why she invites Taichi Nagura from the black metal/noise band Endon to contribute with his vocals.

Opens the album “‡Magnetar” with its stinging, post-industrial beats creating a bizarre aura with her processed vocals. In “‡Otiron” the thick layers of noise mark a monotonous rhythm that is combined with its ghostliness that plays with repetition. “‡Damontoid” creates a hazy atmosphere reminiscent of dark-wave/synth-wave with a sharp beat and dark synth lines. “†White Petals” with its melancholic synths reminds me of the first Death In June albums. “†Sloshing (feat.Taichi Nagura)” which closes the album highlights Taichi Nagura’s creepy vocals alongside a seedy wall of noise.

Yuko Araki delivers a disquieting album that pours out mouthfuls of noise without making concessions, where her voice becomes another instrument to create a creepy atmosphere.
